Updating drivers - G750JS

TheVerdict
Level 7
Good evening all,

Just picked up the G750JS a couple days ago. Everything working as expected and I am quite enjoying it. That aside, I was checking out the latest drivers on the Asus ROG G750JS page and noticed there are quite a few newer drivers.
In the past I would not normally update a driver unless I had an issue, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' mentality. Although, recently I read that that in the case of Nvidia cards that the preinstalled windows approved driver version is not as good as the latest version from Nvidia.

My question is, after noting my driver versions for numerous items are out of date (newer versions) should I go ahead and update (all or some)? or just leave it?

Follow up: If I were to install these drivers would it be from the Asus support page?

Thanks in advance.

I suggest leaving things like software from Intel if you have no issues. I won't even suggest touching your BIOS if you have that mentality.
I would usually always suggest that you use NVidia's own dependable software that your system comes with - GeForce Experience - simply to avoid any issues or incompatibilities. Definitely update your GPU drivers this way. Newer GPUs will easily outpace your 870M so you need all the graphics performance boosts you can get.

However, the newest NV drivers have messed up some overclocking features so if you were keen to try out ASUS GPU Tweak then it wouldn't work. GPU Tweak for Laptops will get you 5% GPU Core "overclock" without ANY drawbacks, which is actually the advertized overclockability of your laptop.
So unless you were using something that the drivers would disable or stop from working - then definitely get the newest drivers.

Looking at the support page I can tell you what you probably don't need to get:
Any of the BIOS stuff, Intel Chipset, ATK (this is the software that controls Fn key functions like brightness and volume adjustments etc.), you can try the Audio drivers but in reality unless they come with some newer sound improvement software or fix an issue it's not worth it, VGA we've already covered, you already have the LAN drivers, probably already have the card reader driver, your touchpad probably works already, you would have noticed if your Wi-Fi didn't work (but newer drives won't hurt if you see slowdowns), if you do This PC > Manage and can find your named Bluetooth device then you don't need Bluetooth drivers, you do however usually need to install Others > Thunderbolt as it seems these laptops don't come with that software, IRST and IME you should already have and you pobably don't need Rapid Storage Technology unless you're running more than 1 drive. I recommend not using Power4Gear Hybrid from utilities (it messes with your performance) and you probably already have USB Charger Plus, ASUS Splendid, the Keyboard Filter etc. If you don't, get these, they are useful.

Cheers Edweird. Much appreciated.
Have followed your suggestions and just updated the GPU via GeForce experience.
