[UPDATE] G750JZ Vertical Lines!! -RMA INFO-

UPDATE
*****************

So I RMA'd the laptop with newegg and got a replacement... and they are saying it's not defective because whoever tested it can't see the lines!! My father can't see them either so you have to have good enough vision to see it, but clearly they are real when I first noticed them without even knowing the lines were an issue (googled it and that's how I originally refound this forum) and my mother and many other people I show it to them, without telling them what the issue is, and they always realize the lines are there within a minute. I'm not gonna let newegg do this, this is theft.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Opened my brand-new, $2300 laptop, only to be greeted with the only fear I had, VERTICAL LINES.

In what world is it okay for Asus to skimp on the screen on a laptop of this price?

How should I go about handling this situation? Because I absolutely refuse to have this screen, I can see the lines from over two feet away and they hurt my eyes after just minutes.

Note: To all the naysayers that say the lines aren't real, they are. My father's laptop had the exact same issue, and it took 3 exchanges to get a working one. The first two were both AUO and on the third I got a CHI MEI in it and it didn't have the issue anymore.

Edit: I should add, I updated Nvidia drivers and removed Splendid Video Enhancement in hopes of it fixing it. It doesn't, just like my dad's laptop. Also, this is NOT the horizontal bars on dark backgrounds like these forums.

Update 2: Newegg is trying to charge me a restocking fee because they can't seem to understand that the panel is defective. Hell no!

The second laptop arrived from Newegg and right away while setting it up I knew it didn't have the lines in it... and what do you know?!?! It's a CHI MEI panel and not an AUO panel! Asus SERIOUSLY needs to either drop AUO or demand them check their productions better!!

hoboX10, so are you trying to return the 2nd laptop that you said was good, or are you trying to resolve the charge on the return of the first laptop?

It is frustrating, but I have found that being extra nice and understanding with newegg people, especially on the phone where tone of voice is important, will help smooth things over - you can be nice and persistent and patient and things will work themselves out - maybe over a few days.

If they already charged you, and you are trying to get a refund, that is tough, and you might suggest accepting a credit for future newegg purchases to recover your loss already paid out to newegg as the restocking fee.

If you think about it, the restocking fee is just a cost of doing business over mail order... it costs them $ to have gone through this too, and the restocking fee is your part of the burden for a transaction that through no fault of either you or newegg was incurred.

Do you still like the new laptop? 🙂

I'll let everyone know how the new one is when I get it, probably Monday or Tuesday.

Let us know. I also have vertical lines, but not as bad as my previous G75.

I gave up the idea of changing my ASUS G750JZ after buying two of them with the same result.
And last time I had replaced my G75 .. 5 times .. still the same.

They just don't put much money into the screen, really.
Samsung tablet has better screen.

So does anyone know of a 1440p panel that would fit this laptop? Cause that would make this thing literally perfect. (Well, if Asus put in the 4800MQ instead of 4700HQ at this price range too)

I did a decent amount of research on the panels before I ordered mine and did not see anything above 1080p available. Those higher res screens are still pretty new so I think this will take some time to filter in to the aftermarket. I tweaked this thing as much as possible and it is better but in my opinion this is a screen quality issue and not an electronics one. I can see where some folks would say it does not bother them as much especially is you are used to matte displays.

I have this at work today sitting side by side with a "cheap" Asus 23" IPS matte monitor and it is believe it or not better that that one on picture quality. That said, my Samsung Series 7 screen (glossy mind you) blows this thing out of the water.

Other than the screen, I am very happy with this laptop, so gonna make an attempt to clear that up with a replacement and see how it works. I will bet a handsome sum you will be back on here next week saying no change. Sending these back and redoing a new laptop is too big a pain fro me, and it is easier to sink 90 bucks in to a new monitor instead of shipping charges and spend an hour getting it fixed.

I guess in the end I am just a glossy man...... and cant look back.

Well I just finished replacing my AUO matte with the same model but glossy and the difference is noticeable. The screen is now what I would have come to expect on a laptop of this cost. Bottom line is this is a terrible move on Asus part to put a very substandard screen in there, when there are other options that cost the same and give better results.

Sad to have to spend 90 bucks to fix a brand new laptop.

If anyone has any tips on how I can make newegg acknowledge this problem (since it's not even their fault, it's Asus's) please let me know. This is going to be a pain to deal with... all because asus cheaps out on panels.

This is how it went: I bought the first laptop and within 10 minutes of opening it I was talking to newegg explaining the issue. She said I can refund the laptop and buy a second one to receive it quicker, so I did.

The second one has a CHI MEI panel and is perfect so I am keeping the second laptop. The first laptop that I refunded they "checked" and say it is in perfect condition and isn't defective, and are charging me a 15% restocking fee. I've been using the chat on newegg to deal with them lately, and while talking to them I always keep a level head but was firm in what I was saying. I told them it was unacceptable and just because one of their testers didn't notice it does not mean the issue exists. I told them countless people complain about the issue. I'm in no way rude about it though and am understanding that it's not the customer assistant's fault.

The person I talked to today said he will have it retested and that he will update me via email. I'll get a phone number of someone higher up and try talking to them, and then if it keeps failing and they still deny the full refund, I was planning on taking this to Google since I used the Google Shopper protection when I bought it and see what they can do. If that fails, I know VISA will step in too as they have some sort of credit card purchase guarantee thing.
