[UPDATE] G750JZ Vertical Lines!! -RMA INFO-

UPDATE
*****************

So I RMA'd the laptop with newegg and got a replacement... and they are saying it's not defective because whoever tested it can't see the lines!! My father can't see them either so you have to have good enough vision to see it, but clearly they are real when I first noticed them without even knowing the lines were an issue (googled it and that's how I originally refound this forum) and my mother and many other people I show it to them, without telling them what the issue is, and they always realize the lines are there within a minute. I'm not gonna let newegg do this, this is theft.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Opened my brand-new, $2300 laptop, only to be greeted with the only fear I had, VERTICAL LINES.

In what world is it okay for Asus to skimp on the screen on a laptop of this price?

How should I go about handling this situation? Because I absolutely refuse to have this screen, I can see the lines from over two feet away and they hurt my eyes after just minutes.

Note: To all the naysayers that say the lines aren't real, they are. My father's laptop had the exact same issue, and it took 3 exchanges to get a working one. The first two were both AUO and on the third I got a CHI MEI in it and it didn't have the issue anymore.

Edit: I should add, I updated Nvidia drivers and removed Splendid Video Enhancement in hopes of it fixing it. It doesn't, just like my dad's laptop. Also, this is NOT the horizontal bars on dark backgrounds like these forums.

Ugh, I don't want to wait so long to get this back!! It's so freaking frustrating that Asus even lets this happen! For 2 laptop generations! WTF!!!!

hoboX10, it sounds like you got a bad one, return it and get a new one. At least you know that it can be resolved by returning and trying again, like your fathers laptop.

This is different than the "faint lines" problem, which is only seen by sticking your nose in the screen.

Real problems like this can occur during shipping with the box bouncing around and dislodging a cable connection. I don't recommend opening the laptop to see if you can re seat the cables, as that would void the warranty - but I have fixed such issues myself in the past by re-seating a cable. Sometimes it is a flaky cable, which requires replacing the cable.

We all hate to have this happen, but it isn't always due to not having good QA at the vendor end, I have been at that end and seen hardware go out that I have personally tested - only to come back not working after shipping. Cables are notorious for failing after getting bounced around in shipping.

Some sellers will do an inspection for you before shipping it to you. You might ask them this time if they will do that for you to avoid this happening 2x in a row.

Sorry to hear this happened, I hope your next one works 100% 🙂

The difference is with my father's is that it was from Best Buy and could be returned in person. This has to be shipping with Newegg.

hoboX10, that's unfortunate. You could return it to newegg, and purchase locally from Best Buy or another red brick location. I prefer to do that myself, so I can work directly with the seller. Best Buy and other places will often match Amazon or even Newegg prices (Fry's), so you can still get the good price.

There are no physical stores that have the G750JZ, at least around me.

Forget an exchange. I just got a new one today as well JZ version and this is hands down the worst screen I have seen in a long time. I am in the technology business and so I have used many different laptops over the last few years and for my travel gaming COD was not cutting it on my Samsung Series 7 Gamer any longer so I got this.

Honestly, I like everything about this but the screen and it is just bad, even for a matte screen. Those that say they cant see the lines are fooling themselves and this is not just a bad batch. I can plug in an external monitor and things look fine. As it is, I have already resigned myself to the fact that Asus inexplicably decided to use a garbage screen on this premium laptop and that is a VERY hard thing to overlook. It is taking every ounce of fortitude for me not to box this up and send it back, which in all honesty is what all of us should do.

If they got a ton of these used ones on the doorstep they would get the message, but I realize that won't happen. Anyway, Ghosts runs pretty good on it and the system runs pretty cool and quite so I am going to try and deal with this first before sending back. I have already ordered a Chi Mei glossy screen and will replace that next week. If it goes away I will keep, if not its going back.

Pathetic business practice..... really is.

I spoke to a Newegg support person and she said for the quickest replacement I could order another laptop and do a refund through defect on this. I did it and have ordered the new one already. I will continue repeating this until I get one that doesn't have the issue, as not all of the laptops contain the awful screens.

As for ordering a replacement panel, if anyone can direct me to where I could get a panel higher than 1080p (preferrably 1440p because I don't want to deal with bad Windows scaling) and that fits the G750JZ then I may just say whatever if the next one has the issue and replace it with that.
