touchpad misbehaving

for the record, this was also happening earlier today before I updated to windows 8.1

it seems the touchpad refuses to move the cursor when I start the movement from certain areas of the touchpad. earlier today it was from just above the left mouse button, now it happens if I start from the top left corner and try to move the cursor in small circles. I know the touchpad is registering the touch because the live taskbar icon shows that I am touching the trackpad. I already tried rolling back to a previous driver, with no success. everything else works fine. any hints?

I will add a second question to this: would it be possible to install synaptics drivers for this elan touchpad? I miss momentum and the default settings for this touchpad are EXTREMELY limited.

problems seem fixed after updating to 11.14.3.1 drivers (they're not specifically for the G750, but they work...still no momentum though)
