The fan is locked at max speed

The computer was to begin with very quiet but did randomly put the fan into some nuclear reaction mode....really noisy.
When this happend I just put the computer off and restarted it and everything was fine again.
Unfortunatelly, this does not help anymor and the fan is constantly at maximum speed.
Does anyone else experince this and know what to do?

Have you checked to see what the temps are? Perhaps it is fast because something is causing high temps.
