Hello,
Asus advertised cooling for the new ASUS SCAR 5090
however, on two different products, I'm getting CPU temperatures of 90-105 degrees in games (Warzone). I didn't understand why.
I returned the first one, thinking it wasn't normal for it to reach these temperatures..
The PC seems to be a beast but something is wrong or I don't know
Thanks.

Hello,
The CPU will try to maximise the boost clocks on the performance cores so if your game is not that demanding on the CPU and you are running on an unlimited FPS you will see some very high temperatures. This CPU is listed by Intel as 105 DegC max operating temp so it's pushing right to the limit.
But what are you quoting, peak temperatures or is the CPU constantly at 105? Usually it should be floating in a range and spiking depending on what's happening in the game?
If I don't changing anything with my 14900HX it's well over 90 Deg C (peak)

Hi,
This is my message on reddit
The problem is that it goes down to 3000mhz and there are fps degree losses every 5 minutes
Even if I limit the fps to 130 the game in low quality it remains at 95-100 degrees constant with peaks at 105 very often.. 105 is the limit for the cpu
either it's a bug or there's a problem with this PC series or I dont know..
Everyone praises its cooling yet.. even Marvel rival 90+
I don't understand.. especially since I see the same PC on YouTube go from Marvel to 75 degrees 5100mhz or from CP77 ultra no dlss 75-80 degrees why I have 105 in 5 min of play ^^
sorry for my bad english

Maybe there is an issue with the liquid metal which is causing higher temperatures?
Also do you have a link to this youtube review as all the ones I've seen are terrible reviews and the 2 that showed temperatures were quite high for practically a few mins gaming.

On 2 different models it would be amazing..
Everywhere on YouTube, I've never seen it at 105 degrees even less on a game like Marvel Rival
On all the websites we see "intelligent cooling" and the asus site even indicated up to -15 degrees on the CPU, Intel has also sold its new chip for its low consumption and temperatures
I understand that it is a laptop but 100 degrees constant with throttling every 5 minutes it is not normal I think
I am forced to curb the machine at 120 fps in low..120 fps the ps5 displays them for 500 euros
The PC looks crazy otherwise but 100 degrees must not be abused, this summer I can't play and in a year the PC burns..
Thank you 🙂

For example this video shows a small cyberpunk run, not much going on and dlss in action.
https://youtu.be/hEB1wrmtWjg?feature=shared
For what is shown, this is high and no doubt in a heavy combat area or high pop it would lower the P-core frequencies and likely run hot. The reason I'm asking for a link is because maybe you are seeing something that I cannot, like region specific.
Poor design or faulty product? I'm more on the side of runs hot by design at this moment in time.

Thank you for your answers

Here is this link for example in 16 inches so supposed to be less efficient cooling level same processor
I understand that it heats up 90 degrees I would like to.. I am more at 95-100 constant with very often peaks at 105 and throttle automatically every 5-10min
I have only tested Marvel Rival and Warzone for the moment
Otherwise the laptop is just insane I would just like to know if it's normal or if I play with a time bomb^^
I have until the weekend to send it back

That's not a fair comparison especially if the G16 is a 5080 vs 5090.
The GPU difference and screen resolution have a massive impact on fps and CPU workload so the G18 model CPU is actually doing more work and will run hotter as a result.
Usually (assuming nothing is faulty) it's the CPU turbo boost feature causing the high CPU temperatures and if you were to play around with Intel XTU software by lowering the max boost clock things should be different. But on this note your expectations on what is good / what the CPU should be running at will be in question. For example your CPU is by design 2.7GHz and anything over is the turbo boost feature (aka automatic overclocking). When it's in use the 8 performance cores are constantly changing and will never run a solid 5.4GHz unless it doesn't exceed certain limits, Power, heat, current draw, type of workload (single or multicore)
So the question here is, are you expecting it to run at 5.4GHz all P-cores and under 95 Degrees C? If not what should it be at? And here comes the problem with modern CPUs, there is actually no defined spec once its over the 2.7GHz base clock as it depends on the powerlimit, motherboard, temperature and Voltages per core / workload, single or multi... plus the laptop CPU and GPU power limits are slightly shared.
What is considered normal for a gaming laptop is sadly defined by "max operating temperature" so your typical response when asking tech support will be quite robotic, and totally useless. We the people / gamers do not want stuttering and unhelpful replies :). It is unacceptable for any computer when gaming to be throttling.
My own G16 experiments (just for some background info)
https://www.electrostingz.com/2025/01/asus-rog-strix-g16-gaming-laptop-is-it-overheating-part-2/
I have since tweaked a lot more and with the armoury crate profile on Turbo the extra fan speed helps.
So your options, Are you able to exchange for another one? this will at least rule out liquid metal / cooling performance issues. And if the same, its hot by design meaning you will have to make some adjustments to the boost clocks.

Thank you for all these details
I saw that it was a scar with a 5080 on the video, however it is exactly the same PC in terms of design and cooling, that I have an 18 inches that should cool better and that I get less fps with a 5090 than him with a 5080 with exactly the same setting
I don't expect 75 degrees 200 fps 5100 MHz constant either..
But I expected even less 105 degrees with throttling every 5 minutes whether in turbo or performance mode
It is on the video at 5100 MHz at 75 degrees with the same resolution as me, and on other videos whether it's a 5080 or 5090 I've never seen the processor go up to 105 degrees every 30 seconds and throttling, on the other videos it's the same I've never seen it go down abruptly that frequency, it always remains between 4.5-5100mhz there or me in 5 min of play it goes down to 3000 because direct too hot
That it heats up no problem, that it heats up to 105 degrees (limit acceptable by the CPU) every 30 seconds on a game with 18 degrees in the room placed on a desk with 0 dust is in my opinion not normal, especially when you promise a cooler processor than the previous generation... and this summer I can’t play for sure
The PC does not have to lower its frequencies constantly, I am forced to lower the fps to 120 and put in all low and again it remains at +90 degrees..
As I said above a PS5 at 500 euros does better without crash or bug every 5min
ASUS ROG remains in my heart I continue to want this model for whom I worked like crazy to be able to buy it and be able to work and play in good conditions I was coming out of an 1650
For now I'm wasting my time being the weather presenter and watching the temperatures everywhere lol
