Sum it all up G75 problems buy or not

Gentlemen, I have been an Asus fan for 15 years nearly. Avid desktop systems builder and I only use Asus in my builds with the exception of video. I use Nvidia


I have been reading for a few days now and I see many issues some reported by less experienced users and some from experienced users.

I currently own the G73JH. I love this machine this has been the best laptop I have ever owned. After the Vbios issued was solved and I flashed the system this laptop has been TOPS.

The topics and issues are all over the forum board as I would be expecting.

I would like a veteran or veterans of the forum board to sway my opinion. Sum it UP please dont anyone post it is heavy and bulky lol I know this.

1. Is it safe to buy the G75 yet or not?
2. Are the bios updates a solution yet?
3. break down the issues that are serious!
4. Video card 660 or 670 please tell me the issues here. I have read it is best to get the slightly slower card and tweak it? True or not?

I appreciate any comments and hope to hear form you all soon.

More people will complain about problems than the people with no problems. Get it if you want but i am sure the defect rate isnt that high.
I forone got unlucky and on my G75 my 670 overheats to 90C+ using furmark so i just sent it in to get repaired.

1) I think it's safe to buy a G75 as long as your retailer has a good exchange/return policy. You may need to exchange the laptop to get one without defects (e.g. overheating, as described by @Destroyer99 above). Just return it and get another if your 1st G75 has this issue.

2) ASUS hasn't bothered to tell anyone what the BIOS updates fix, so I can't comment. I can't recall a thread where someone reported an issue was resolved by a BIOS update.

3) A fix is awaited for the subwoofer audio issue. Read about it. If it is unacceptable to you, better wait until it is resolved. Otherwise, there doesn't appear to be other serious issues.

4) I'll let others present the video card pros & cons.

I guess I feel like a minority here, but I have had zero regrets so far with this laptop and I am what most would call "picky" and definitely fall into the "demanding enthusiast" category. Even with those personal characteristics I myself have fell in love with this laptop over the last month.

I recently had to go out of town for 2 months to receive major surgery and recover. (surgery over and all is well.. now I am recovering)... I needed a hardcore laptop that would allow me to game (and when I say game I have like 350 games on Steam ... not to mention origin/GoG/amazon/etc/mmo'/etc... so hardcore gamer is putting it lightly. I have an appetite for long duration gaming and high end graphics on a wide genre.

I also do 3D animation and video editing work for my business....which are both very intensive computer tasks.

So you could easily say I put this laptop heavily through its passes over the last month.

I picked the 660m model which from what I read around forums is perhaps...."knock on wood".... the more trouble free unit over the 670m??? Not sure about this or not.

All I can say, is since I got the laptop I dropped more ram and an SSD into the laptop within 1st day. I reinstalled the OS from scratch (no recovery). I hand picked all the latest drivers (no Asus update or Asus easy mode downloader "do it for me" tools). Perhaps since everything was pristine and installed by hand I am getting better results?

Long story short (too late I know.. sorry) I love this laptop... it kicks some serious ass. For games and work it eats everything I throw a it and impresses me. It almost feels like I am not away from my home rig while I am away and I dropped close to 4 grand on that thing, so for this laptop to impress me is saying a lot. Especially since I spent maybe like 1500-1600'ish bucks on this laptop? It easily has the juice of a 2k+ laptop if I went the Alienware route. I am not advocating that brand, but let's face it, for high end gaming laptops it is the king of name drops.

For me to be this happy on the Alienware camp I would definitely have had to drop 500+ bucks more... and frankly I love the chasis design of this Asus G75 (as an artist, I am particular of the design look of my laptop and rig cases) Alienware's definitely have good looks too, but overall I rather save money if another product can touch on ALL of the same bulletpoints and make me happy.. which I feel this G75 did for me.

I'm just gonna post my opinion in point 4 since I agree with the above and have nothing more to say in the other points.

Gtx 660m

Pros:
Cooler
Cheaper
More than enough if you don't need to play stuff with the max setting possible.
Uses less power (saves more battery or/and electricity)

Cons:
Less powerful

Gtx 670m

Pros:
More power
Gets you where the 660m doesn't

Cons:
Hotter (still cool enough stress test around 80ºC)
More expensive
Uses more power.

I think if you like it you should buy it, not all of them have problems and Asus assistance is A class.

As everyone has said above, most people are looking for solutions to their problems.

Personally, my G75BBK5 (purchased at the beginning of April) has been stable right out of the box.

I would give it a thorough run thru - keyboard for sloppy keys, USB ports, video display, etc., soon after purchase to catch any obvious problems.

Do update AI Recovery prior to making any recovery disks. And DO NOT use Winflash, use the BIOS flash method if necessary to update BIOS.
