Strange flickering/pulsing of screen on low brightness

My G75-VW's screen, when it is on any brightness level other than maximum, does this weird flickering pulsing thing when a dark image on screen. Very annoying.

This screen is extremely bright so no need for max brightness all the time.

Had same prob with dell xps 14. Dell changed screen, prob went away.

Changing refresh rate from 60 to 40 does nothing. Those are the only two options available.

Short of calling asus and replaceing screen, which i assume will require shipping and me paying the shipping, anyone with similar prob and/or solutions?

@JoyfulPo was the most recent one to go down that road (see http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?28472-Replaced-5-x-G75VW-last-one-came-back-from-repair-wit... ). He got a #4 (see http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?1800-power-connector-pin-broke-on-my-G53jw&p=216679&viewful...).

Some report reduction of flickering by creating a Custom Screen Resolution in the NVIDIA Control Panel and setting the Refresh Rate to 67 hz. See http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?5536-Asus-G74-screen-flicker-(dark-backgrounds-and-low-brig... and http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?20249-Weird-faint-screen-lines-over-everything-on-G75WV-BBK... for more information.

if you set all sw can not help, it may be HW problem, i think you can take it to reseller or asus service center to check it.

Yes I noticed this problem as well. It shows on gray backgrounds but it is very rare. Only if the grey is transparent and behind there is a white background.

Problem partially solved by applying:

Brightness: 40
Contrast: 22
Gamma: 0.81

in Nvidia control panel of course.

Moving to 16bit color also remedies the problem.

However changing the refresh rate to 67 does nothing. I went up to 90Hz and the problem remained.
