SSD Samsung EVO question and RAM related on g750

Hello everyone, i am an old Dell fanboy (never had any other laptop) but this time
i am glad to be here. After 2 days of furious reading (i think i got it all covered at least on this part of the forum)
i have decided to buy a G750JW. I know all i need to know about the other more powerful models but i am too old
and i know very well what i need from a PC so i decided to go for JW for 2 main reasons.

1. it is basically same as the most powerful G750 besides the Nvidia 765 instead of 780. For what i need 765 is more than enough considering i spent the last few years on a 8600M GT...the other RAM and HDD/SSD diferences does not matter to me,
i can change those.

2. i prefer to spend some money on quality RAM and a Samsung 840 EVO instead of having 780 on it. i play very rare
and when i do most of my games are quite playable even on the ancient 8600M GT...

Why i have decided to let go my beloved Dell Inspiron 1720 ?? (T9300/4GB ram/ 1920x1200 screen/ GT8600M)
For 2 main reasons: metro last light and DayZ Standalone... stupid reasons but i don't have others...
95% of the time my Dell is doing Photoshop, Corel and Rhynoceros works...and never failed on me.

I need some community help though. I want to buy a Samsung 840 EVO but i am a bit confused about the
versions because i have found: 3 with 3 prices...
1. Samsung EVO Basic SSD 250GB 2.5 SATA3
2. Samsung EVO Basic SSD 250GB 2.5 SATA3 notebook KIT
3. Samsung EVO Basic SSD 250GB 2.5 SATA3 desktop KIT

This is the one i want to buy:
http://www.edigital.ro/SSD/Samsung_EVO_Basic_SSD_250GB_SATA3_MZ-7TE250BW_(840_Series_SATA_6Gb/s)-p36...

It is good? What the hell means "notebook and desktop" kits??

For the memory i will decide later which DDR3L modules i will get.

Thank you for your help! I hope this device will manage to "move" and old guy from Dell to Asus.

P.S. 2 days ago i have changed the old PC of my wife with an N550 (i5-haswell) and after a bit of struggle i have managed to get all perfect working in Win7/64 although asus said only for win8) she is more than happy with the result. I will try to install Win7/64 on the new G750 and if i fail i will go with Win8.

Hi mugur, welcome to ROG club, I'm also quite new here but it truly enjoyable being a ROGer. For your question, the different between SSD with or without kit is just mainly regards to the mounting bracket. As for G750, we don't require the mounting bracket to install the SSD. Hope this reply will solve your query!:o

Yep, you don't need the 'Kit' as that's just the mounting bracket or caddy for the drive.

Just get the drive by itself. You may want to read more on the forums, I'm not the expert on the hard drive department (yet) but I think you need to link the drive in your BIOS or DOS or something so it's able to be seen.

That's if you're using it as your primary drive I believe, not sure if you're replacing your secondary disk, if the G750JW has one.

Update; I noticed the EVO comes with a USB connector.. you ARE mounting this INSIDE of your laptop, right? Not just using it as an external drive?

Also come to think of it, you should probably get the netbook kit. Do more research on both the normal and netbook kit, as the cords that connect the drive to the motherboard might be different length and shape.

P.S. Use appropriate titles for your threads! This is more-so sounding like you need help with a hard drive! :3

Title edited but the topic name does not want to change... 😞

thank you all for your help
first: i want to boot from SSD (internal) but i know how to do it, no issues there.
second: the "kit" means not only the bracket but apparently a cable/adapter for using it on USB3 also. no need for that.
third: any advice on some good/fast/reliable memory DDR3L ?

Hmm, no advice for ram, though try to pair with what you already have in the machine. Ram is fast, getting performance or ordinary ram shows little to practically no gain, at least for what anyone could notice. Ram is ram in my understanding.

But yes, try to match the brand, and get 8x2, not 4x4 as it costs more energy to run them.

i thought CL9 is better than CL11 but since mine is 1x 8Gb
i will try to match that one.
