The drives do get hot but I don't think I feel them all the way through the touch pad; that would be a LOT of heat. You might be feeling something else? If you remove the HD/memory panel on the back are they too hot to touch or just warmish?

i can barely feel them on the top of the plastic next to the touch pad , but if i touch them directly they are a bit hot , i can still hold it in my hand not enough to burn me or anything like that , i'm working on a promo outside and its 110* so i can just imagine how hot the inside might be ......

If ambient temps are high then you can expect the components to be hot as well. But as long as they don't get any hotter you should be OK. You aren't seeing any graphical artifacts, experiencing shut downs, etc, right?

The SSD shouldn't generate any heat to speak of, but HDDs certainly can, with heavy use. Only the drive installed in drive bay #2 would could potentially generate temps that you feel through the touchpad's PCB. That bay is directly below the TP, with very little clearance between them. (The other drive in under the right side of the palmrest.) But still, I've never experienced noticeable drive heat in my Asus laptops. (I used to feel it in the palmrest of my older HP, but I think that was because HDDs ran hotter back then.)

like brody said, the HDD will heat up varying with usage... with SSD's having an aluminum housing it will become heat soaked due to the other HDD getting hot and being so close, making it seem like the SDD is getting hot. I wouldn't worry unless the SDD is getting hot when the HDD isn't installed.
