Wow!!! I went on the W8.1 driver download site today to look for new divers and saw the latest for the Broadcom BCW4352 (Version V6.30.223.143) and installed it. Now when I go to Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Sharing Center and click on my "Connections:", it shows my speed at 866.5 Mbps!!! I could only connect to my router at that speed when I was in the same room. Now I am one floor down and 3 walls away (about 30 feet) and get the 800+ Mbps. Prior to the update I was in the 300+ Mbps range (I was happy with that!). Speedtest.net clocked my speed at 122/22 Mbps on Comcast 105/20Mbps tier. My system/network:
1. Asus G750JW
2. Netgear Nighthawk R7000 (BTW 109 USD at BB!!)
I read somewhere that the wireless adapter manufacturer must update the driver to 256 QAM modulation and Beamforming to take advantage of 802.11ac speed. It seems that Broadcom did one or the other or both!
I was able to transfer a 2.2 Gb file from my laptop to a USB HDD connected to the router in 2 min 20 sec and Windows states the transfer averaged 16 MB/s.
