Should I get the G75?

Hi I'm Tristan from Malaysia.

I was thinking about getting the G75 when I saw the thread about the audio thingy which I read through, the audio problem seemed terrible for me (It's not thoroughly fixed yet) as I do like to enjoy a nice audio experience from the laptop apart from gaming. Previously I had my desktop before I sold it as I needed to move back to my country. Now I'm back to my Toshiba Satellite M100 which clearly does not meet up my requirements ( besides the harman kardon speakers broke down and FUBAR recently). I need to buy a laptop that will last a while, like my old faithful M100.

Should I continue with my choice with the G75? It sounds silly to ask question like this in a ROG forum and I would like to know the experience from the owners. If not what would be the other choices? (Alienware is really expensive and I'm reluctant to pay that much, but I'm open to opinions and experiences)

Thanks guys. Peace.

I have always been honest.

There is a chance for you to get a defective G75 as QC seems rather poor. Now the problem is that this can happen with other brands as well (I know from my very own experience since I only use laptops for years). But if you get a G75 with problems you will blame Asus and maybe us who told you to buy one. So consider very carefully what support you get from those that sell these laptops (any of them). Best support might mean more than the laptop itself.

I have a G75. It's hard to compare prices, I'm in Europe, I got a great deal on it with good warranty (still I hope I won't need it). But I had to try several laptop 'till I got a good one (other brand as well as Asus).

I like my G75 very much. It's a very decent gaming machine at a very decent price (for me was cheaper than G55 with 660M and same specs as overall system). It makes a bit more noise than G55, but I can handle it.

The sound problem, oh yes. Well, I'll put my settings up soon. If you are very serious about sound alone, it might be a good idea to buy a speaker system. Microlab or Creative Gigaworks maybe. It's not that expensive either.

Should you buy one? I don't know. I got one and that is all I can say.

Thanks c_man for your honest opinion.

Actually I did a lot of research and I narrowed it down to G75, I got cold feet when I saw the audio problem and other problems as well which concerned me. I think I just need the final push off the cliff and you just gave me that. I do like the G75 very much from what I saw in the internet and by trying out G55 (It's hard to find a real model of G75 at here due to the price and short on demands).

I think I'm going to order an unit pretty soon.

As for the audio problem, I do hope it will get fixed as soon as possible and meanwhile thank you for your efforts in desire to post up your settings. A speaker system is not an option for me, otherwise I would have bought myself a desktop, I do not have a lot of space so a high end gaming laptop with good audio, a razer mouse and mousepad are all I gonna put on my desk. I appreciated the suggestion though. 🙂

I will continue to follow up with the forum and hopefully be part of the community soon.

P.S. Will G75 ever get the upgrade version of 7970m or gtx680m?

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?20102-Asus-WHY-YU-NO-GTX-680m

I'm still chasing up the audio issues which can be fixed with the right drivers.

I strongly disagree that QC is poor. This is a support forum so predominantly people who have issues come here, while the many owners we sell to have no issues they would rarely come here to say "Oh hi all is great, bye". Take this one G75 for example: mostly 5 eggs on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230408

Thanks Richard for answering that. Appreciated.

But I have tested quite a few of them. Most with heating problems, some with defective fans and minor stuff. So my opinion is based on my very own experience with G55 and G75s. Still, the fact that I got a G55 first and a G75 second (cheaper than G55, same hardware except 670M) SHOULD speak for itself.

Is there a chance for a problem? Yes. Is this limited to G75? NO! Is this limited to Asus? Definetly NO!

And I speak from first experience. So the best we can do here is agree to disagree about QC.

Best regards!

How about headphones?

Well actually I do own an Ultrasone HFI 780 and it serves me well. Just that I have to put them on every time I turn on my old laptop (the speakers are broken beyond repair) in order to entertain which it's quite annoying. I put them on too much and too long. Sometimes I just want to lay back and listen through the laptop not my cans, if you get what I mean. That's why I am in need to get a new laptop to replace my retiring M100 (7 years with no upgrades!). 🙂

Yes but make sure you get it from somewhere you can return it if there are issues you can't live with. Also, make sure do some thermal stress tests since these machines have questionable build quality in that area.

Ok noted. Thanks! I will keep that in mind.
