Seriously considering getting rid of this notebook...HELP!

Hey folks,
I own a G74SX-BBK8 (2nd one owned, returned 1st one) with bios 203. I've gone ahead and completely wiped the OS and installed only the most necessary software. ASUS bloatware is gone. My keyboard has been garbage and randomly either stops allowing me to type, completely, scrolls around randomly or worse. Typing even the shortest of messages is an absolute chore on this machine. Furthermore, I am having the same network connectivity issues with the Intel N-6150 card as other members have been having as well. I have also uninstalled, reinstalled and updated as much as I possibly can. I have resorted to using a Netgear WNDA 310 usb wireless adapter just to fetch my wifi signal from 12 feet away.

I've tried various ATK packages and even tried to see if I could change my BIOS. Having the most up-to-date version of ATK or BIOS has not helped in the least bit. Any advice would be greatly appreciated before I begin trying to get rid of this machine. My faith in this product is virtually nonexistant at the moment. Having spent the kind of money this laptop costs, I expected at least a functioning products.

PS - I currently run Trend Micro Titanium 2012 as my anti-virus. Might this be my internet connectivity issue's root? I use a netgear N600 dual band N-router as well.

Your wisdom is greatly appreciated.

giving this a shot right now....I'll be keeping you all updated on this portion of my issue!

PS - Thanks

Ok, so far this may seem to be the fix this issue based off my laptop's performance tonight.

Fn keys no, backlight maybe, but probably not. you will lose the ability to turn the backlight on and off. its just a troubleshoting step thats all. you can always re-install the ASUS driver if it doesn't work.

get the touchpad fix and that should fix your problem with typing messages and getting interrupted. Your network problem could be that you firewall settings on your computer are blocking you from accessing your router. Disable all firewalls and turn off the trend micro antivirus firewall (if there is one) and see if that helps. If not make sure that you have the most up to date driver installed. IF that does not help you contact me via pm's and I will help you further.

I've gone ahead and taken your advice. So far so good. Typing the replies, although short have seem to really been smooth-going. I have yet to have the curser shoot around to different sections on a webpage. I'll be keeping you all posted on my computer's performance! I appreciate all of your input thus far.

I'd hazard to guess that the single most cost effective thing Asus could do for current G74SX owners to enhance our satisfaction with the product would be to either alter the touchpad driver so that Windows doesn't think it's "required" for the machine to operate (allowing us to disable the hardware completely), fix the unreliable keyboard disable of the touchpad, or provide us a software solution that reliably (and semi-permanently!) disables the touchpad. At this point, it is simply habit for me to reach up and unplug/plug in my USB wireless mouse receiver to re-disable the touchpad.

Other than that, it's a fabulous machine, but some of these small irritations really build up over time from the rather obviousness of their nature.
