Hi guys!

I have Asus G750 JW and I'm going to buy a second monitor BenQ XL2411T
http://benq.co.uk/product/monitor/xl2411t/

My question is, Can I have 120hz in that monitor using HDMI cable?
The other connection in the laptop is mini Display Port, but this monitor doesn't have it.

Thanks!

Well bud just to let you know you will not be able to run at 120mhz. Not unless the game and your video card supports it. I know I have a Vizio 42" 120mhz HDMI TV. IE: BF3 nor my $700 EVGA GTX780 support 120mhz. Sucks huh? Welcome to my world.

Well I'll change my question. How can I know if my video card supports it?
http://www.geforce.co.uk/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gtx-765m/specifications

It's nvidia 3d vision 2 capable and the monitor as well, so I guess I can use the monitor
in 120hz mode.

So what's the problem? Obviously I know my video card can't play last games in 120hz.

I tried to find the solution with google, but I can't find anybody saying a clear yes or not.

And It's more confusing about the cable that allow me to do it, because no where in asus or nvidia I can find if my HDMI port supports it.

Thanks mate for your answer and don't worry I didn't buy it yet,

You need Display port for 120hz, or Dual-link DVI - you can get a DisplayPort to Dual-link DVI converter for about $100+ but I would suggest finding a similar monitor with DisplayPort 1.2+ so you can do without the huge converter dongle. 🙂

The mini-display port to full size display port cables are hard to find in stores right now, I ordered mine online, and the cable worked fine with an Asus PB278Q for 2560x1440. I didn't try 120hz, but I know 120hz works on DP and not HDMI as available today.

Here are the cables/adapter I got, you don't need both, I just wanted to make sure I had something that worked so I got the mini DP to full DP adapter to use with the monitor provided DP Full to Full cable in case the mini DP to Full DP cable didn't work - it did, and I haven't even tried the adapter yet:

Accell B143B-007J UltraAV Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort 1.2 Cable with Latch, White, 6.6-Feet

Thanks hmscott! I'll try to find another 24 inch monitor with displayport
