Screen Flickering with a brand new G501JW in 3D mode

Hello,

My wife just bought a ASUS G501JW-CN222H to improve its gaming experience in various games and more specifically World Of Warcraft. 🙂

She just unboxed it yesterday and bad surprise... the laptop works fine but as soon as she log into WoW, the screen start to flicker
permanently and some blank lines also appears every now and then... From seeing that i would say that it look like a refresh rate issue or something.

She tries to change the game resolution, update to the latest nvidia drivers, reset WoW graphical settings in various way but the issue still remains.

She's in the process of installing other games while she's at work, in order to check if it's related to WoW but i would like to know if somebody
has faced the same kind of issue with this laptop and manage to fix it?

Thanks for any help you can provide 🙂

Hi, can you check if you have the same problem as mine of this thread https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?62270-G501-LCD-panel-issue-(Washed-and-Pixelated).

If so, I tried reinstalling the Video drivers for both Intel and Nvidia. It temporary fix the issue, however after using it for a few weeks my screen starts to flicker even just browsing google chrome?

Maybe some asus techies can help on this here 🙂

It seems different on my wife's laptop. It's only happen when the 3D GPU is involved... either in windowed or full screen mode. When the laptop
is only displaying the windows desktop everything is fine. Even starting a game with the intel (?) chipset works (although it's very slow indeed ! ;))

Seems more like a failing video memory or something. I guess we will just bring it back to the vendor since it's doing that out of box...

End of the story: The issue seems hardware related and was more obvious with the power plugged in. PC returned to ASUS, we have a new one to play with.

YES. I'm so glad I came here. I have the same problem with my new G501. When my monitor turns off due to inactivity, the screen flickers when I come back to my computer. Also there is this very fine pixel-ated appearance. Sometimes it goes away, other times it doesn't. What email/number did you contact to get a new laptop?

Yes I have had this same bug come up several times now. It is very annoying. Sometimes the screen strobes like crazy. Other times it gets washed out and pixelated.

Hi everyone. I had the exact same problem when I first received my computer. It was flickering and getting washed out etc etc etc even when I'm just using chrome. I RMA'd it that night and am waiting for my replacement. Has anyone figured out a solution other than getting a replacement? Or is getting it replaced the only way to hope for one that doesn't flicker?

hi... do u still have this problem after getting a new one?

Hello, I bought the Asus ROG G501JW from Amazon for $2000, and since i got it, ive been having the exact same problem as 'drntropy'.
When my lid is shut for too long or my screen is off due to inactivity for too long, when i relight up the screen it is flickering and this problem
is really upsetting. Now my problem is that I am in Pakistan right now, and I will be going to the United Stated for colege in a few months, i am thinking
I should wait to get the the U.S before sending this laptop in for replacement. Can somebody please please guide me on what I should do? I also do not
know what number to call or who to speak to about this. Please, any help will be appreciated.
