Rumor: G752 shipping with 180w bricks?

There is a rumor that you guys will be shipping the new G752s 980m models with 180w instead of the previous 230w you had been using with 751s.
Please tell me this is not true, there is PLENTY of evidence and complaints on the Alienware forums that this throttles performance significantly because this is not enough power to supply CPU and GPU.

that's what the specs say for the G752 VL and VT

Yeah, 180W. Dunno about throttling performance. CPU and GPU are supposed to top out at around 150W.
I've never had my G751 go over 180W, even when overclocked. I really like the Delta-made 230W, though...

Maybe the VY/980M will have a 230, who knows.

@Edweird
Do you use an external monitor to check power usage?

I myself doubt it will have less than 230W power brick.
On many forums people state that 180w is not enough with i7 and 980m when at 100%, so the system will be at risk of trottleing. If CPU and GPU alone combined are alredy 150W, you must also think about all other components (monitor, HDD,..) and external devices wich might be plugged in.
I think 230W is a better/safer choice. I read a lot about Alienware problems with a 180W brick, so better be sure 🙂

Also 6-cell 66 Watt-hr battery on VL & VT models.

You can borrow Kill-A-Watt meters at many public libraries now, lol.

i7-6700HQ processor (at 3.5GHz) = 45W
HM170 chipset = 2.6W
GTX970M GPU (3GB GDDR5) = ~95W
DDR4 (4x16GB DIMMs at 1.20V) = ~24W
PCIe (per slot) = <75W
7200rpm HDD = ~6-10W
ODD = ~12-15W est
Display panel = ?

It seems like 180W would constrain a fully-loaded system, just not enough power to run everything at full load.

that is exactly why I eliminated Alienware to begin with when I started looking for a new laptop. I even chatted with a Dell rep on line and she asked if I wanted to also purchase a larger "brick" for an additional $149.00

When I pressed the question and asked if the Alienware machines had a throttling problem with the lower wattage brick but she never confirmed it but still wanted to sell me a higher watt model for 149.00.

I thought something was wrong with all of it...

Please don't tell me Asus has the same issue
