ROG G551JM Wireless software, which ones do I need?

Hi all; It was suggested to move to here for this. I have the Asus G551jm and I removed 8.1 went to 7, hated it so bought 8.1 pro and installed it. I went to download the wireless drivers on the Asus page but there are about 6 different ones, do I need them all? I tried installing all of them, the Intel WIFI says it is not for my computer and I am having connection issues, being my connection keeps jumping fast/slow/fast/slow etc. I unistalled a bunch and now only have Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 and Realtek PCIe GBE family controller. I tried getting rid of the Realtek but no matter what I try it won't uninstall. The problem is my wireless speeds are going from blazing fast to dialup slow and if I do a network repair I get the message "problem with wireless adapter or access point - fixed."

So I am confused and it sucks only getting about 5% of my available internet speed, normally I only have the two smallest bars showing on the internet connection graphic.

Thanks for any help.

Don't remove the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller driver, that is for your Ethernet connection. It won't conflict with your WLAN (Wi-Fi) driver.

That said, it seems that either your card is acting funky, or you are having a driver conflict from all the drivers you installed then removed. Chances are that there is leftover data related to those other WLAN drivers you removed. Try an application designed to clean junk data and the registry, like Ccleaner. You can also try a tool that resets all of the Windows network configurations back to default, such as CompleteInternetRepair.

Thanks, going to try the repair tool. My internet bars keep dropping from 5 full down to 2 and if I diagnose I keep getting the binding error, wish I could fix that but maybe the program will do it for me.'

I have the same problem with my 551. It is more consistent than yours but my speed drop occasionally as well. My solution is disconnect/reconnect and it's been kinda helping so far. I'm also puzzled about which driver to download.

Hello...I have owned a gl551jm for about a couple months now and was working fine. This morning I noticed that I lost my wifi connection all of a sudden...and it is not finding any networks to connect to. I restarted it, ran the troubleshoot, but nothing. I think its a hardware issue. Anyone else have this happen?

Also just to note...i can connect to the network fine on my other devices

Hi jbhui79,

Reinstall the driver for your wireless card (WLAN). It could be as simple as that, otherwise it may be a hardware defect.
