Repasted G750JX, shocking result.

I just recently did a repaste on my G750 and it turns out my temps lowered down by a staggering 10-15*C BOTH on CPU and GPU

My past temps were 83 max record on the CPU and 82 on the GPU

EACH TEST WAS DONE FRESH AFTER REBOOT -- TEMPS RECORDED WITH CPUID HWMonitor

CPU used handbrake bench, before 83*C, after 71*C

GPU used Furmark (Burn In 15min 1920x1080) before 82*C, after 68*C


The process took me 6 hours, ( of course I will be careful ) but when I pulled off the GPU heat sink, there was crap EVERYWHERE.. all over the board, even under the plastic protectors of the chips.


They use this sort of weird.. "paste" looks like it's some blue-tack like strip you just put down, unless it's machine applied.. it looks extremely formal. It was practically dry in my understanding.. after 9 months use on low-end games ( I play stuff like Warcraft 3 mostly with my friends, and high-end games on the side, temps never exceeded 65-70 on the GPU Tweak report )

I was literally scraping off the old stuff with a paste spreader, it looked like a cracked wall, and crumbled like plaster.



Replaced with Arctic MX-4 (I didn't use silver, though I could have for the main chips on the die, but everything else was quite small and difficult not to make a mess, I didn't want to risk getting it onto the board.)

What ever that paste is that came stock, it's simply terrible.. 10*C I understand is quite the improvement. Also got a chance to clean out my fans which was nice.

Doesnt this whole strenuous process seem arbitrary????? From what I have read the CPU can handle 83 just fine, and the Intel Chips actually continues to perform at top performance until 100 degrees. So going through this tedious process to reduce your temperatures by 10 degrees actually does nothing for your computer performance? Correct me if I am wrong...

HI darnassus, any updates on how the k5 pro pad replacement gum is holding up? i just orderd me a pack as well already and was wondering if all was still A-ok with yur g750

and to brinchn27 sure the machine can hand;le those temps more then well, but for some ppl its also a bit of a sport to get temps as low as possible perhaps 🙂

When I checked the paste, nothing was dry except for the three metal chips to the side of the die.

I decided to change to the K5 because I didn't want it to dry, that's if K5 is able to dry or not.. not only that, but I repasted my PS3 and soon my 360 with the same stuff. ;D

I've had no trouble thus far, so excuse the slow update.

For Wulff, it's going great. Again I used MX4 on the die, K5 on everything else.

So is it safe to use only Arctic MX-4 paste(got 20g pack) on VRam chips? Or better to find thermal pads?

Ive planned to use MX-4 on VRam chips, etc. and CL Liquid Ultra on CPU and GPU.
K5-PRO isnt available in my country and currently i need to repaste du to high temps (like 90+ degrees gaming and 65-70 degrees idle)

Or better use only MX-4 for now until i get K5-PRO or thermal pads?

Your thermal might be fine, it's just the paste on the die itself.

The die is what is 90*C. And it comes with a different 'paste' to what the other components are smothered in.

If you have had the laptop for only a little while, I suggest RMA'ing it or getting a swap.. otherwise, just get K5 from Ebay.

great news then darnassus, i got my package but the pack seems so small haha i got the 20 gram version would that be enough for the card?

Did you place it on your card? How does it work? Do you think that 20g will be enough for 5 cards or should I get the 60g packet?

And I am back ;U

Done another repaste today since it's been 7 months or so, my temperatures were hitting over 80 again for the past few weeks and I wasn't liking it, especially now that Summer's coming.

Fell back down a whopping 20*C,

CPU Idle was 64-67 --- Now 46

GPU Idle was 50-55 --- Now 41


Probably would go lower since I'm running Chrome tabs and Skype in the background.

I think MX-4 is crap.. it seems to be drying out after 6months, I've found various other posts about it.

Might change to Gelid..

Hi Darnassus,

Are your G750 still alive? Do you still use MX4 for the dies and K5 for the other chips?
Tip: It seems that K5 is still an option but it really looks like a mess to put it on. Then I read about a guy using surgical gloves to form a litte round ball for each chip which nicely cover the chips when the heatsink it installed.
