Repasted G750JX, shocking result.

I just recently did a repaste on my G750 and it turns out my temps lowered down by a staggering 10-15*C BOTH on CPU and GPU

My past temps were 83 max record on the CPU and 82 on the GPU

EACH TEST WAS DONE FRESH AFTER REBOOT -- TEMPS RECORDED WITH CPUID HWMonitor

CPU used handbrake bench, before 83*C, after 71*C

GPU used Furmark (Burn In 15min 1920x1080) before 82*C, after 68*C

The process took me 6 hours, ( of course I will be careful ) but when I pulled off the GPU heat sink, there was crap EVERYWHERE.. all over the board, even under the plastic protectors of the chips.

They use this sort of weird.. "paste" looks like it's some blue-tack like strip you just put down, unless it's machine applied.. it looks extremely formal. It was practically dry in my understanding.. after 9 months use on low-end games ( I play stuff like Warcraft 3 mostly with my friends, and high-end games on the side, temps never exceeded 65-70 on the GPU Tweak report )

I was literally scraping off the old stuff with a paste spreader, it looked like a cracked wall, and crumbled like plaster.

Replaced with Arctic MX-4 (I didn't use silver, though I could have for the main chips on the die, but everything else was quite small and difficult not to make a mess, I didn't want to risk getting it onto the board.)

It looked like this when I first removed it

How it looks when applied during assembly?

What ever that paste is that came stock, it's simply terrible.. 10*C I understand is quite the improvement. Also got a chance to clean out my fans which was nice.

Darnassus, the site just came up after extensive work, they might have changed a tuning parameter and rebooted 🙂

Or, it might be a network issue - routing bump / change.

I love your smileys.. ❤️

Darnassus, that particular smiley is the "been there, rebooted/restarted that OS/httpd" smiley 🙂

Actually, whatever tuning paramter(s) they changed seems to have made a good improvement to speed and responsiveness for edits - the editor is coming up much quicker now.

Apparently it's been only 14 days. Things are still going well. Idle is 36-38 on both GPU and CPU.

Darnassus, that's great, glad to hear it is holding steady 🙂

Thanks Scott. ;d I'll be running a bench in 2 more weeks. It might not be as accurate though, since heat is coming here and I don't think the ambient temp I used before will come very soon.. ';x

Just doing a bump because I'm repasting again very soon. Going to take some pictures and show how the MX4 worked on my VRM's.

Checking if the MX4 was actually good, and if not, going to put some K5 Pro Gummy to the test.

Hi all,

I just repastzd my laptop too

Everything is good on battery but when i charge it it crash, black screen. I have this issue on windows 10 fresh install or during boot, as long as the laptop is on AC.
Same issue with battery off

Do you have any idea ?

Best regards.

My best guess would be that you didn't get everything put back together correctly?

Hold on. So I've screwed up..? ':f

When I put the plate down without any paste, everything seemed quite level.

There was no pads anywhere under the GPU's heat sink.. HOWEVER, there IS pads underneath the GPU's daughter board separating chips between the daughter board and mother board between. I NEVER touched those.

What are 'Cans'? The big metal capacitor looking things?

Also the plate on the GPU as you can see have different levels themselves to make contact.

Ahh whoops forgot to show a picture. Here

Darnassus, IDK, you have to eyeball the cans on edge to see if they are going to line up and meet the thermal plate at the same height as the GPU.

All the components have to be at the same height to meet the plate.

Unless the plate has areas that are thicker to bridge the gap - you need to bridge the gap - if there is one - with a precisely cut piece of the right thickness of thermal pad - they come in varying thicknesses - or you bridge the gap with a thick viscous paste.

Is the MX-4 thick enough to keep the gap filed over time? Or is it thin - something that would run / thin over time and pull away from the plate breaking contact?
