'Reasonably' Priced Memory Upgrade Question for any G50v'ers out there

I'm desperately trying to upgrade my ram from my old G50v. All I can find is hideously overpriced chips at about 100 bucks for a single 4 gig stick.

Is there any other speed ram we can use, that would be cheaper, which wouldn't in some way **** up the system or be gimping it's performance?

It runs pc2-6400, and a core 2 duo (penryn core).

If anyone could help, I'd be so F ***ING happy.

unfortunately nope.

that's one of the draw backs of the g50/51 series.

now for the cpu, you can buy a imac one for super cheap. i picked up a E8235 @ 2.8Ghz for $25. with the defualt overclocking it jumps to 3.06Ghz. but the ram, i'd either wait for some kind of deal or something. it's high. try to find some for around $100 for 2 sticks, or even as high as $150. but i wouldn't really worry about it. if you haven't done it yet, grab a SSD. better use of the money.

damn. thanks for the info, man, I was hoping it wasn't so. I understand that ssd or processor upgrades would be nice,
but I've found that firefox uses a literally retarded amount of ram sometimes, and = I can no longer use that + one other ram heavy thing simultaneously (games and such) which is why I wanted to upgrade my ram. Kinda bummed out.

It's awesome that I can upgrade the processor, and have seen some people upgrading their video cards, but...
damnit Asus.

I remember when I got it, and I was like: 4gb, that should be MORE than enough ram forEVER. lol.

How hard was it to upgrade your cpu? Do you have any experience with a gpu upgrade too?

The only way around this is somehow making windows use less than 20% ram at boot, or getting mozilla to
write their software more efficiently. I'm pretty sure one of those will NEVER happen lol.
