"Remove everything and reinstall Windows" - Option to choose new OS Drive?

Hi everyone!

I'm on a Asus G750JW and I just bought a Samsung 840 EVO. I'm using it as a slave drive for now, but it works great.

However, I want to reinstall Windows 8.1 and install the OS on my SSD.

Under Settings>Change PC settings>Update and Recovery>Recovery, there's an option that says "Remove everything and reinstall Windows".

During that installation progress, is it possible to choose my SSD as OS Drive?

If you don't have much on the SSD try saving it to a flash drive or an external HDD. Then use the data migration software that came with the SSD you may need to update the version to have it work properly. After you update the software you can clone the OS onto the SSD and then switch the drives out so the SSD is in the first bay and the HDD is in the second if you want. The migration software will NOT delete the OS off the HDD so you can store that HDD somewhere if you choose.

So here's what I'm going to do. Please tell me if I'm right about this.

1. Make a recovery flash drive using Asus Backtracker
2. Clone my HDD to my SSD
3. Swap the HDD and SSD slots so that the SSD will be the startup disk.
4. Use the flash drive to do a clean install of Windows on my SSD.

Fryder, cloning the HD to the SSD is all you need to do. If you haven't spent much time configuring the HD, there isn't really a reason to clone, you can make the Backtracker flash drive, pull the HD's (pull both) and put the SSD in the boot bay 1 and then boot the Backtracker Flash drive and restore to the SSD.

In your steps you are doing 2 builds of the SSD, you only need one - either clone to it, or do a recovery restore to it.

The Backtracker recovery first erases everything it finds in Bay 1/2, so that is why you remove the secondary HD too 🙂
