My G74sx no longer powers on or charges the battery, I'm using a known good Asus power adapter bought from Asus when the original one died but all I get is the charge light very very faintly flashing when it's plugged in. It worked fine for many years after replacing the original power adapter with a genuine Asus replacement but eventually stopped charging the unit. It was running okay on the battery until that discharged like normal. Now it won't charge (I even bought a new Asus battery just in case that's the problem but that didn't help)
I looked up this issue on YouTube and it suggested the power port is bad so they pulled there's apart and the power-port solder point was all crusty, so they replaced the power-port and it fixed it. So I took my keyboard off and found the same solder point while not crusty was darkened and there was some weird brown / black stuff around the power-port area.
I've now seen that it's thought to be an issue with these Asus laptops that use this massive (I think it's 300 watts) power adapters that have to supply so much power to the laptop that it basically damages the power-port or at least the solder joints, last I checked Asus denies it's been an issue and of course this laptop which would still be great for me to game on and use in general is way way out of warranty.
Any thoughts on the power port dying issue?
