Problems with ASUSDVD

I rented Dawn of the Planet of the Apes yesterday and when I went to play it I was told that "Your blueray player needs an update to play this movie. Your manufacturer recommends ~cyberlink website~ for updates."

I went there and tried their thing to check for updates for any products on my computer. It told me that there were no updates available. I went to the ASUS website and downloaded it in hopes it would work. When installing it wanted me to uninstall the old version and it went ahead with that. Once the new version it was installed it is now asking for an activation key.

What the heck is going on? ASUS really needs to give us this info when we shell out as much as we do for their products.

toronto699, interesting, so Asus isn't including Asus DVD on any G751's, likely not on the G750JY either. And, anyway, Asus was distributing version 10 (from 2010) and that isn't of use on new movies.

It's too bad that free Blu-ray playback isn't available any more, but then again Asus doesn't ship games with the laptop either 🙂

Cyberlink seems to be on a 3-4 year cycle of support for new versions, the version 10 - from 2010 is ending support in 2014, and version 14 for sale new in 2014 will hopefully at least last through 2017, but I haven't seen any promise from Cyberlink for such a duration.

For me I will either keep up the quarterly payments and buy the 2015 version 15 when it releases to get the full length of support.

I watched the Spiderman 2 movie on Asus DVD and Cyberlink PowerDVD already, so maybe I am inoculated for a while 🙂

I guess I will rent the "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes " movie at some point and see what plays it.

toronto699, that's why I went with Cyberlink after checking out all the other options, Cyberlink seems to have the most robust development and support.

But, if they don't fix the volume bug, I am going to be forced to go elsewhere...

I am hoping that free http://www.leawo.com/blu-ray-player/ player keeps providing BD updates...

Update: make sure the Leawo Player can call home to get BD updates. Fixed my problem playing some titles. It was spinning and not coming back to start a new BD, for one I got busy with something else, and it timed out and displayed a dialog saying it couldn't get information from server, gave it access and it works fine.

So, I filed a ticket when AsusDVD wanted the activation key. This was before I posted here. I just got a reply to it. ASUS's response is to do a full factory reset to get it back... lol

Bdtry, that's great news! Now you have them on the hook to provide Asus DVD to you! They are telling you you are supposed to have it, just do a factory reset. After you do it, tell them whether you have it or not, and then ask what next.

You are only 10 more support emails away from getting the Asus DVD activation key, or another factory reset email! 😉

Today 12/16/2014 I wanted to play the new Blu-Ray Ninja Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie , Asus DVD said I must update in order to play the new Mutant Ninja movie , The Ninja Turtle movie updated the Asus DVD BD . What it installed I have no idea as I cannot find what the ninja movie updated , but I seem to have a BD update as something was installed and the New Ninja Blu-Ray Movie Plays just fine. The Asus DVD Version I have is
version 10.0.5022.52 , The Movie The Amazing Spider-Man 2 also updated my Asus DVD BD a few months ago. Im not sure if these updates , update the Blu-Ray Drive or if it somehow updates the DVD software. Anyone know what is updated? Software or hardware?
