Problems with ASUSDVD

I rented Dawn of the Planet of the Apes yesterday and when I went to play it I was told that "Your blueray player needs an update to play this movie. Your manufacturer recommends ~cyberlink website~ for updates."

I went there and tried their thing to check for updates for any products on my computer. It told me that there were no updates available. I went to the ASUS website and downloaded it in hopes it would work. When installing it wanted me to uninstall the old version and it went ahead with that. Once the new version it was installed it is now asking for an activation key.

What the heck is going on? ASUS really needs to give us this info when we shell out as much as we do for their products.

Bdtry, you can still recover from this, I have been through this recently, and here is what worked for me.

Uninstall the version you downloaded from Asus. Reboot. Use Asus Install to install the version of Asus DVD that came with your laptop, backed up in C:\eSupport.

If there is no listing for Asus Install, use search function to find it, or start if from where it lives, here:

C:\eSupport\eDriver\AsInsWiz.exe

You will get a dialog like this:



Uncheck everything except for Asus DVD, in the other sections on the left as well - if you are a in the show all dialog you can uncheck all except for Asus DVD in that Window.

Install Asus DVD.

This time, when Asus DVD asks to update, it will send you to a specific URL - you need to pay attention to what it says at that URL 🙂

It will have 1 download for your OEM product only - version 10. The other download sections don't host this download. If you miss it, or click closed, or somehow lost the path to the link while browsing around, you will need to reboot and go into Asus DVD again to be sent to that address - I did this a couple of times before I bookmarked it, here is the bookmarked page 🙂

Install it, it will ask to uninstall the old version first, and when it finally finishes install...

Start Asus DVD, and when you try to play a Blu-ray, it will ask to do another update 🙂

Fortunately this is an in program update of encryption data, so you don't need to do another browser based download and install of Asus DVD.

Thanks for the help. After using asus installer and starting up asusdvd it said it needed to update. I clicked ok, then a second later it said update complete. Then nothing happened. Close and reopen to the same thing. Reboot and still the same thing. After several more attempts with the same result I followed one of your links to the update.

After the download it did the needs an update thing and I clicked ok. This time it actually updated to I can play older movies. But now I am back to where I was in the first place.

The blueray will load, the Twentieth Century Fox thing will play and then the screen goes red. The following message shows up. I tried to get a screenshot but it is black for some reason.

When I go there it is not compatible with firefox so I have to blow the dust off of IE and go from there. Unfortunately there are no updates available and I am still unable to play the disc. This is why I tried to download it from the ASUS website 😕

Bdtry, darn, it looks like the version Asus was distributing won't be updated to support newer content. That is why Asus isn't distributing it with the G751 as well.

The Asus DVD version as installed and patched isn't getting new updates. You won't be able to fix it to play new releases that require further key exchanges.

You could fill in the blanks and submit the form, and see what they say...

What movie are you trying to watch?

Update: make sure the Leawo Player can call home to get BD updates. Fixed my problem playing some titles. It was spinning and not coming back to start a new BD, for one I got busy with something else, and it timed out and displayed a dialog saying it couldn't get information from server, gave it access and it works fine.



They have had 3,487,636 Downloads, so I would imagine some times getting to their update server is going to be an issue.

So far it has played everything I have tried, but I haven't tried any new release movies. Some times in the past even with Cyberlink it took a few days to a week or more to get the codes for new movies in their server to get for playback. I just put it in a PS3/4 or standalone Blu-ray player that did get updates upon first release.

Oh wow, that is really frigging stupid. The movie is the new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes which came out recently. I did say that it required an update and that nothing was available and am awaiting a response.

I downloaded that Leawo but it did not work either. After the TCF logo it went to a black screen and would not play. It did not ask for an update like asusdvd did.

Edit: This program is pissing me off. It will not close and is always active. I tried to uninstall it and it wouldn't uninstall cleanly. "Some elements could not be removed. These can be uninstalled manually"

Bdtry, if it wouldn't close, likely crashed/locked up and hung trying to play that unplayable BDR, you should have tried rebooting and power cycled if it wouldn't die. Then after a clean reboot you could have uninstalled.

It might have been waiting on an internet download to play the new disc.

It couldn't uninstall because the hung processes wouldn't exit and close the open files. Windows/uninstaller won't uninstall files that are still open.

When an uninstall fails, and it doesn't clean up due to open files, an old trick is to reboot, so Windows comes up clean, then re-install the app again, reboot so files are closed, and then uninstall while files are closed so the uninstall can clean everything out successfully.

Here is the leawo support, they have various methods for support. It looks like this was a paid product at one point, it mentions a trial product 5 minute viewing limit; that is no longer the case I watched Star Trek: Into Darkness last night, and it played all the way through.

I guess you are doing to have to pop for a commercial product like Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultimate 14. They have a 30 day free trial, and Black Friday sales on now. There is even a $39.99 upgrade deal at that Asus DVD Upgrade URL I posted above.

I hope Dawn of the Planet of the Apes ends up being a good movie 🙂

Go Buy or rent the new Spiderman BD Movie , "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" there is a BD update on that movie disk, some Sony movies have BD updates included within the disk, that solved a PS3 will not read {BD update needed } problem I had and the spiderman movie also updated the BD on my laptop.

Too bad the movie was the most disappointing Spiderman movie ever ;(

Is there a list somewhere on which movies have them? I would have thought the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes would have had them too...

I did watch that movie... well the first 15 or 20 minutes of it anyways. Since this movie is really new it probably does not use the older versions. 😞
