Problems Installing Samsung XP941 M.2 SSD on a G751JT

I just got my G751JT-DH72 from Amazon and it has M.2 connector. So I bought the Samsung XP941 from Newegg.
But I've encountered some issues.
After installing the XP941 and pressing the power button, ROG logo appeared on the screen and stops there. Then a few minutes later, the laptop shut down.
Then I removed the XP941 and re-inserted it to the M.2 connector, this time I was able to boot to the BIOS and I could see that the BIOS recognized the XP941. Then I exited to boot from Windows installation USB, but it stucked at the ROG logo and then shut down again.

I removed the XP941 and then inserted the 2.5" SSD, the laptop booted to WIndows normally.
Then I shut down the laptop and inserted the XP941 again, the laptop booted to the Windows on 2.5" SSD and it recognized XP941.
I could format the XP941, test the speed on it, it seemed to be working fine.
Then I tried to restarted the Windows and boot from USB to install the Windows on XP941, but the laptop stucked at blank screen then shut down.

I'm not sure what happened. The laptop's been working normally without XP941.
I don't know if the problem is XP941 or M.2 connector.

Has anyone successfully installed the Windows on XP941 on G751JT?

The SSD seems to work (it is recognizes in the BIOS and you can read/write to and from it).
You could try:
1) update Asus G751 bios to latest version
2) update XP941 bios to latest version

I updated the G751 BIOS to the lastest version, 206, before installing the XP941.
There's no way to update the XP941 BIOS/firmware. If you know how to do so, please provide an instruction.

Hello

As the XP941 is an OEM drive there is no consumer support for it. This includes firmware updates. Be sure the laptop is set to full UEFI mode as this is required for the XP941.

bluebubblea, you aren't the first that has reported this problem booting an XP941 in the G751. Hopefully someone will post a reply with how they did it. But, it is possible you would need to get the M.2 PCIE x4 drive from Asus with their firmware to allow booting.

You could look for one on ebay, for an XP941 that is a pull from a G751, sometimes laptops die and get parted out, that would be all I can think of for now to get a bootable XP941, or return the laptop and get a model from Asus with the M.2 PCIE x4 SSD already installed by Asus.

The M6e might work, it tested as bootable on way more systems in this qualification test, but it is a slower Gen 1 PCIE x2 drive, but still faster than a 2.5" SATA III drive.

"There are some reports online that you can make a M.2 drive bootable by making it a single disk RAID then installing in UEFI mode"

There have been reports that the SM951 would be bootable, even in the OEM configuration, but here is a report by deteplete3 @ notebookreview that their SM951 wasn't bootable in the G751, but it was bootable in an Asus X99 Deluxe motherboard.

The best bet for now is to buy the laptop with the M.2 PCIE x4 drive from Asus.

You, and others, could write to Asus about the boot problem with the M.2 PCIE x4 drives in a Technical Inquiry and request a BIOS update to support the OEM XP941's, SM951's, and future M.2 PCIE x4 drives.

It's possible Asus can't do this for you, if they order the M.2 SSD from Samsung/maker with bootable firmware to Asus specifications. It would take Samsung/maker of the M.2 SSD to upgrade the SSD firmware to make it workable.

It is also possible it is a non-reversible process that can't be changed after the firmware is burned and made into the M.2 SSD.
