Restoring to an earlier restore point would have solved it, but I found a much simpler solution. I am posting it because this happens on lots of ASUS laptops. I realize that the OP has already solved it. It seems it is very easy to accidentally put your ASUS laptop in a different video "mode". Hit "fn C" (the function key and the letter "C"). Holding it will show what video mode you are in. Hitting the "C" in succession will cycle you through the various "modes." Mine was in "theater" mode. Just set it back to normal and it will look fine.
