G75VW. Upgrade was easy and smooth aside from VIA audio and touchpad drivers, which were a pain in the ass to fix. Though I have seen a few OS bugs so far, the experience has overall been great.

I have a G73JH. I haven't installed Windows 10 yet as it's not yet available for me, but I plan to. Is there anything I need to know about before I do?

You are doing this correct thing looking to see who have what isses. Also the tenforums is very helpful

You need to upgrade through Microsoft update first. once that is complete you can download the ISO and clean install if you want too.

Upgraded? windows 7 to 10 on g74. Afterwards, no sound till I downloaded drivers but now stereo is the my only option. My HP printer doesn't have driver so its dead - found that out today when I tried to print. I disabled the p2p downloading because it should had been off and ASKED me if I wanted to use their bit torrent. The browser Edge is lacking even the basic setting new tab to specific page; I have to get new tab and then hit home page to get it to where I want it. I'm holding out till the end of the 30 days they give us to roll back to see if they can't fix most of these. Seriously, no drivers and they still let this turd drop.

Well its very easy to just restore that Image of your OS Drive with windows 7 usually takes me 15 to 20 minutes and I'm right back where I was at the time I made that Image!! Asus is not likely to support windows 10 on any G models below the G750 maybe not even them. They have always stopped updating models that they are not still selling. If you really want to run 10 then you'll have to source out working drivers and work around. Besides this forum there are the http://forum.notebookreview.com/forums/asus-gaming-notebook-forum.1087/ and the https://www.tenforums.com Also Goggle will be helpful.
Personally with my G75 I don't plan on upgrading It to Windows 10 for at least a few months if at all after the first major SP. I'll watch out here and the other forums and deside if its worth the hassle or not. I lke windows 7 a lot and windows 8.1 even better for this notebook 10 may not be in the works

You mention having only 30 days to roll back to 7? the offer from MS is 1 year to upgrade to 10 for free then that free version is for as long as you have the notebook. If you have the recommended Image of Win 7 you can restore that anytime you want?

Does anyone have experiences to share with DirectX 12 and benchmarks/graphics/gaming/video?

Thanks!

Please let us know what you decide on your G75 and if you are willing to put a list of drivers / sources / links for drivers together, it would certainly help the whole community very much! My main reason for considering Win10 upgrade is for DirectX upgrade and potential performance increases. However the next question would be if the GPU drivers from Nvidia would be Win10 compatible or be problematic?

Thank you all for your input! This is especially helpful for the driver issues I'm anticipating we may have with some devices and OEM software!

For those of you who need the ISO, you can download it from this page - make sure you are selecting the correct version 32/64 bit:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

AUS Win10 upgrade website: http://www.asus.com/event/2015/osupgrade/upgrade.html

Perhaps they will consider supporting it after all?

Keep the comments, benchmarks, experiences coming!!

Well lets hope they do support these older notebooks after all this one is barley over 3 years old!! Hopefully everyone that does the upgrade to 10 will post in this thread how they get everything working or don't? If enough do the Mods will make it a Sticky so it will be easy for everyone to find.

About three months ago, I purchased a used G75VW that came with the Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Evaluation Edition installed. It was a pretty early version, and I was a bit nervous. The guy who previously had the ROG was an IT Professional. Fast forward to 8-9-2015, and I am now on Build 10162 - the second major upgrade since getting the G75.

I've used the laptop extensively, both for business (Adobe CS6) and personal use (email, web-surfing, videos, gaming on Steam, etc. ) My overall impression is WOW! Microsoft finally got their **** together and created the awesome OS that most of their core users have been pleading with them to release! I've used every OS they have produced going back to MS-DOS, and had decided that Windows 7 was their crowning achievement. I do video production and have used it at work everyday for five years. Which, of course, was why they decided to create Windows 8 - just to piss me off. However, they have redeemed themselves.

From the moment I began using it, Windows 10 has been running almost flawlessly. It has all the power and appeal of Windows 7, but with some additional technological flair and function that enhances my computer experience, and doesn't force me to put up with a Smartphone interface, or bogdown the system with unnecessary software / app crap.

With only a few minor exceptions, all of my software has been loading and running fine. The only exceptions have been Adobe CS5, and the most recent Serif Creative Suite. However, these could also be driver issues, or something else. I also have the issue someone else metioned regarding the headphone / speaker function. It doesn't switch over with the cable being plugged in. I have to manually change the default. Anyway, final word... I am very pleased. CUDOS MICROSOFT.
