Possible problem with asus G74 recovery disks from asus estore

So I ordered a set of recovery disks for my G74SX from the estore. The first set I got, didn't seem to work; couldn't get my laptop to boot from it (even though it would boot from my vista installation disks), and couldn't get my desktop to read it either (didn't show any contents.

I called the estore and sent it back for a replacement

I got the replacement today, but my G74 still won't read it. I tried it on my desktop and this time it will read it, but it shows the label of disk one as "NEEDS RMPS2_0___00000001_0000_00" . Is this normal? google tells me this is what happens when a copy is made without Recordable Media Protection Signature emulation enable, but I'm not sure if this is the reason why my G74 won't boot from it.

The recovery disks should still work, so if there is some problem with them, please continue working with eStore to find a satisfactory resolution.

Please let us know how it turns out or if there are still any problems!

Good luck!

thanks, I called them today and they told me it was tested in house and it should work and suggested I call the asus tech support number. I called asus tech support and explained to them the issue and they said the disc was broken and I should call the estore back. Estore said they'll send another copy, so fingers crossed.

On the off chance it doesn't work and this isn't a disc issue as I suspect, any thoughts as to what could be preventing my laptop from booting from the recovery disk even though it boots from my retail windows vista installation discs?

currently I hit esc when it powers up, select the dvd drive and it ends up just loading windows vista (installed when I was trying to eliminate the dvd drive as a culprit )

Really, if you can boot to other disks okay, it sounds like there is just a problem with those eStore recovery disks, so hoping this next set will work okay.

Guess we should find out fairly soon?

There is the slimmest chance that your drive may not be working well and is having problems reading the media of the eStore recovery disks, so you might try to copy the first disk with a different computer to see if it helps at all, but I'd probably just wait to try the next set.

By the way when you say your G74Sx is not able to read the disks, assume you mean you just cannot boot from them and are not checking in Windows?
Since your desktop can read the disk labels at least, expect your G74Sx should be able to do this too in Windows if installed.

If you haven't already, make sure your boot options are set correctly and you press a key to boot the DVD if you see this message (I don't remember if it appears for these disks though).

This actually reminded me that I hadn't tested the restore disks from within windows on the laptop itself. So I reinstalled windows vista and it seem neither CD was being read properly from within windows. I took my lenspen pro and cleaned the dvd lens and tried it again. this time both discs were read, but unfortunately while it didn't boot straight into windows, all it did was hang on a black screen with a blinking cursor.

tried to burn a copy of the disk on my desktop, but results was still a black screen with blinking cursor. To confirm it wasn't my dvd media I download the Windows 7 iso from the digital rivers site and burned it onto the same brand dvd. Windows 7 installed fine and I was able to use the second asus restore dvd to install all the drivers and software.

So I guess I'll wait for my second RMA and see how that goes.

Wow, that's some pretty thorough testing. Yes, hopefully this next set works better.
