Personal experience and opinions on the ASUS ROG Shuttle backpack? [for a G750JZ]

Hi everyone, first off let me make clear I've spent hours looking for detailed info about this bag: reviews, pictures, youtube videos and the likes. I've also been reading threads on the forum and probably read 15 pages of comments that didn't help a lot with the info that I wanted.

Has anyone carried his laptop (a G750 of course) with this backpack for more than a couple of months? How many days per week? How long did it take before the straps tore, if they did? Some say the JZ model is a bit thicker than the other G750J's implying it might be considerably tight in the Shuttle, is that true?

Another aspect I prioritise in a bag is certainly the way it protects my laptop. I know I'm probably very paranoid about my pc taking little bumps from other people's shoulders (may small "collisions" eventually damage the laptop internally?) - but I still need to know how good the cushions are, and how well is the bottom padding, assuming the Shuttle has one. The main issue with the bag that I'm using at the moment is that it's not meant to carry an overly sized 17.3", and it's more of a trekking/camping backpack so it obviously has neither a sort of protective padding on the sides nor an internal cushion that acts as a divider.

Before commenting, mind that I've considered other backpacks, but the large majority was either too expensive (over €100) or hardly obtainable in my country. I've seen some cool Rosewill bag in video review, for instance, but as it's a semi-unpopular American brand I didn't like the idea to wait several weeks for it to be delivered AND also pay off the European customs fee. I've also taken into account the Nomad, which seems to be the best option. I'm sure my Asus would be safe and sound in there, but as I've just implied above, it's bloody expensive.

Thank you for reading, I hope to get a lot of good insights. Anyway, I'm writing this thread now after purchasing the Shuttle II (not the original, which is a few centimetres shorter and narrower) online, and the point of it is simply to see what people think before actually having it in my hands. If the backpack fails me, I'll have wasted some money in a mis-advertised product, but I would also make sure not to buy any ASUS bag in the future.

Godansman, I did see the Shuttle II while looking for the ROG Nomad, and thought it wasn't large enough to hold what I needed, besides my G750JH, so I went with the Nomad.

The Shuttle looked well constructed, and if you need a slimmer backpack, and only want to carry the laptop and power adapter, and a couple of other small items, then it is a good backpack choice 🙂

I can tell you the Nomad is larger, and has quite a few more compartments, which I fill up completely often, so for me the Nomad is a better choice.

We don't get a lot of talk about the Shuttle, no reviews I have read here, so if you do get it, please do come back and give a review 🙂

You guessed right, I do need to carry my laptop and power brick only, well besides a few clothes sometimes. As I believe the nomad and the shuttle are more or less made of the same materials, can you tell me how fine are the straps doing so far? Are the sides and top of your nomad at least slightly padded inside?

However, I know that it's not very popular, at least not as much as the nomad. I may post updates every now and then, once I've got it. Godansman, that video may be showing the Shuttle I, not the Shuttle II - the Shuttle II was grown an inch or two in a couple of directions to better fit the G750 - the Shuttle I was out before the G750 series. Not sure, but it may be that Asus simply kept the same name when upgrading the sizing - I haven't seen a Shuttle II label...just the name Shuttle.

The G750JZ/JH are thicker at the rear than the G750JX shown in the video, which would be an even tighter fit. If the fit is too tight the material will rub off the rubber coating, so make sure to pick a fit that is a bit more relaxed.

The Nomad and Shuttle II are so popular because they were designed for the larger thicker G750 series. Built differently, the material is tougher, and the straps on the Shuttle II & Nomad are wider and balanced with the wide attachment / handle between the straps at the case.

Thanks again for commenting on here, I appreciate all the links and pictures. The guy in the video probably purchased the older one, he's asked in the comments whether that's the old or new shuttle and says he's got no idea.

However, I knew already (fortunately) that the Shuttle was 'upgraded' a year ago or so and as a matter of fact it is the Shuttle II that I've purchased. I'm gonna get it tomorrow unless Amazon fails me, which I consider less likely to happen than another ice age. By the way yeah it's supposed to be about a inch more, perhaps less (they said it was 2 centimetres larger for each size or something). I also knew about the rubber coating being peeled off by bags that didn't properly fit the laptop,. I love how ROG pc's are designed and having mine look like **** because of a bag well, that would be frustrating isn't it?

I think the Shuttle has a very cool look, it is simplier and less eye-catching than the Nomad. Someone said that "I don't necessarily have to advertise that I'm carrying a $1800 laptop". Honestly I'm thinking I might even scratch off the asus logo on the bottom front, I think it's a little too much to have both the ROG and Asus on the backpack. Most people don't exactly life in peaceful and small communities in the country you know?

I have te nomad backpack myself here but i have to say i dont use it that much since i try to limit the times i carry my nb with me. so far the nomad is as good as new and when i use it i also carry quite some dj gear in the backpack with the laptop so thats quite some weight. bag handles it great.

Great to know, as I've just said in another comment the materials are supposedly the same so there shouldn't be quite a difference in a matter of durability, perhaps?

By the way, I know, carrying around a laptop too often is not that safe, for multiple reasons. We've got a filling machine here at work that makes small vibrations for several hours a day. After a year or so the motherboard was dead, worthless junk. Most likely, people bumping your bag in the metro (underground/subway) isn't as bad as a 6 hours long vibration for 5 days out of 7 but I'm sure every laptop which is actively carried around is going to need heavy maintenance sooner or later.

My previous asus worked fine for over 2 years but it mostly stayed at home.

Godansman, side by side they are strikingly similar backpacks in design and "pop" - the small Asus brand on the bottom isn't offensively large... I wouldn't worry about it.

The Red Piping on both is much more of a stand out - I would have preferred an all black backpack, but either way it's not more of a standout than many other backpacks.

Got it a few hours ago, and the laptop fits perfectly. I also feel that it's actually safe and sound in there, it's cushioned all around except maybe for the front of the compartment, which is protected by the rest of the bag anyway.

There are also quite a lot of useful small pockets inside, I didn't even notice while purchasing. I can't say anything on the durability but I don't go hiking or jogging with a 5kg asus on my back... We'll see.
