Overclocking 4710HQ issues

I have a G551JM and I am trying to overclock and undervolt the CPU.

I have raised all the core multipliers by 2 and undervolted by -90mv on core and cache.

I can use my computer fine, play games, edit photos, rip DVDs and even had IntelBurntest going on extreme setting for 2 hours.
I can run XTU stability test for hours too.

So I figured everything was stable......I was wrong.

If I reboot my computer and load XTU I get a message saying that watchdog has reset all my values to default.
Sure enough XTU loads up and is totally reset to default values. I can assign my profile again, all seems well until I reboot again and go to load XTU.

Can someone please help? Am I doing something wrong here?

ROGer G551, generally that is due to a system crash or improper shutdown last time. Do you have Hibernation/Fast Start up enabled? You could try disabling Hibernation and see if the problem goes away.

Are you running the latest version? 5.1.2.2?

Are you powering down with shutdown, sleep, hibernation?

If you are shutting down with Hibernation/Fast Startup enabled, you aren't really powering down, and the event might be seen as an improper shutdown, try disabling Hibernation in a Run As Administrator cmd window:

powercfg /hibernation off

That will also disable Fast Startup.

Did you install XTU as Administrator? Uninstall XTU and try installing XTU as Administrator too.

We haven't seen your specific error before... so there are some things to try before reporting the problem to Intel for a fix in a future release.

There were some compatibility issues early on with XTU, there might be a new one. I needed to uninstall AIDA64 at one time... runs ok now, you might review uninstalling monitoring software - 5.1.2.2 works ok with AIDA64, hwinfo64, speccy.

Please come back and let us know how it works out for you 🙂

Thank you hmscott for such a detailed answer! Really appreciate your time 🙂

I do indeed have fast startup enabled, so I'll try what you advised tonight.
I'll also uninstall and reinstall the latest xtu app.
I think the only monitoring software I have is hwinfo64, I'll check though.

I do have passmark installed and CPU Z, could these conflict possibly?

Thank you

The strange thing is that I've been running normal clocks but just undervolt and it hasn't happened.....So must be an unstable overclock, that for some reason only effects reboot??? Seems weird.

Also, I have to instances of Intel Watchdog Timer driver in my programs list, is that normal? one of them has no info and the other is 5.03mb.
Both installed on the same day......
