Odd problem with G75VX

I'm having an odd problem with m G75VX- I noticed that since yesterday I've been getting random FPS drops in all my games.
So I started playing a movie and saw that instead of the normal 24 it was playing at 18-20 fps(leading to a good amount of stuttering). However, whenever I press the ROG button(I have a 3d model so it's the 3d toggle button in my case) the video starts playing at the normal 24 fps.These problems are obviously related.Any help would be appreciated.

Has it been happening ever since? Have you tried rebooting your laptop? Have you got any GPU/CPU intensive applications running in the background?

what is your VGA driver version? please install new driver to try.

No I wasnt running any applications in the background. I've managed to stop the problem for the time being by turning of 3D from the nvidia control panel.Dont know what will happen when i turn it back on.
