Notebooks and Virtual Reality

I'm having a hard time finding information on virtual reality gaming and mobile devices (Notebooks) I'm desperately needing to upgrade my current device (Asus G72) to something more modern, I'm expecting major gains in every aspect for performance and quality while upgrading from a 5 year old machine. However I have been trying to find information on any mobile platform and virtual reality.
What are the compatibility and performance issues with the mobile versions of these graphics cards?
Is it something that can be easily done with a GTX 965m or a GTX 970m? or do i need to exclusively look at a machine with the GTX 980m (Or the new GTX980)?

Does any body have experience with setting up virtual reality on their G751? what's the process like and what's required?

Thanks for any input - if there is already a thread for this please direct me that way... I couldn't find one.

I've done a mild overclock (see attached) on my G751jy (980m) to get Oculus Rift recommended bench results. Only time will tell if this is actually 'safe' but more than likely will be more than fine. I am betting that the GTX980 equipped devices will be even larger than the G751 or perhaps even need water cooling http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/2/9251275/asus-gx700-water-cooled-gaming-laptop-ifa-2015-video. Obviously you need to weigh for yourself what your priorities are and how much you are willing to spend.

The more you can spend the more VR ready you will be.

I worked on a project that involved VR, more specifically Oculus Rift DK2. It runs fine on my G751JT... the problem is that for the DK version at least the technology seemed like isn't matured enough. If you for example look left right a couple of times you would notice that the objects in the scenes become very blurry. Also the resolution of the DK isn't something you can write home about (you could notice the individual pixels on the display). I would probably wait for the consumer version, and the G752 at this point (Oculus CV1 is supposed to launch Q1 2016)

So the JT with the 970m can run it? alright that's what I need to know... it looks like mobile devices for VR aren't quite market ready or on the same affordable level as the the common gaming rig yet. it might be worth finding a JT for a decent price... $1300? to get buy until the VR ready machines become readily available.

First it depends on what VR solution you are targeting. The JT cannot meet production Rift recommended performance levels. The JY can't either at default spec levels, though per my screenshot can when OC'ed(if firestrike is on the money). This doesn't mean you can't run the production Rift on the JT just that developers will be targeting higher spec machines.
