after much back and forth deciding i went ahead and pciked up the g75 when i saw a refurbished version for just about 50% off
i bought the model with the core i7 3630qm the nVidia gtx 660m w/ 2gb of ram
link to the new one here:

my first impressions were not that great but after using for a few days and finishing updates it was running pretty smooth. so i thought well lets do a fresh install of win8 pro since i have a msdna account and could get it for free, but after i installed win8 pro from the disc it was still only regular windows 8 and not once did it ask for my new product key. i did see the thread where you spoof the uefi to the newer product key but there has to be a way to do this without a work around right?

also do i need the via hd driver to enhance sound or can i go without it?
Thanks,

so the first post ****ing ate itself into nothing, my first question was. is there a way to install windows 8 pro without having to do a workaround? i got it for free from my msdna account and wanted to do a fresh install on my new pc.
also do i need the via hd audio driver for the sub to work? or for it to "enhance" the audio quality.
Hopefully it works this time.
Thanks,
Boneskid1

if you have the w8 pro install media, create a home-made usb-based install stick with it (see here). you can also create another file called x:\sources\PID.txt and put your w8 pro key into it (see here, look for 'PID.txt' without quotes)

Honestly I don't see why you would have to do a work around ot install Windows 8 on it. Where have you heard you needed to do a 'workaround' and what exactly did it entail?

I only ask because i have thrown windows 8 on several computers for family and friends and never encountered any problems.

Unless you paid like $800 for that thing you have been had my friend. Best Buy has the G75vx for $1250 and it has the Nvidia 670mx. I'm not trying to be rude, I am trying to point this out to you so you still have a chance to return it. I can't believe they are still selling the G75 with 660m. Must have alot in stock still.

Nah I got the g75vw for 727.94 after taxes and such. But I shouldn't have to do the pid.txt trick to get the of to properly load the install, with the bios setup the way it is the product key for windows 8 standard is set "inside" the bios so when you load a win8 install disk it automatically uses the product key that is already with the hardware instead of asking you for it.

yes, you shouldn't have to do that. what i meant was for w8 pro 🙂

so i found launch csm in the bios, but i cannot find anything about fastboot or secureboot. where are they within the bios?
i apologize for sounding quite stupid. this is a first for me as i am so used to the old style bios operation

OK I got it.I tried the paid.text trick with a USB drive and it worked it now has my windows 8. Pro on it I installed all the proper drivers with exception of the USB 3.0 driver as I cannot find it.so is it included in the chip set driver or do I need to get a special one?
