New member. Bought the asus g750jz :)

Hello everyone. So I bought this g750jz last month.
this version came with 8GB ram, 750GB hdd and a dvd-burner.
This was the cheapest of the jz series I could find. Since I knew I could not do anything about the graphic card afterwards.

Anyway I did do a bit research before buying it. So I went and bought 2 new hdd's. 1X250GB and 1x500GB samsung 840 evo SSD drives.
I also bought 2x8GB ddr3l memory so it now has 24GB total. (Ye I found out about the low-voltage ram)
I also bought a samsung blu-ray burner that did fit with the front cover.
Got a 16GB usb pen. used asus backtracker to backup the whole thing. removed the 750GB drive and installed everything again with the usb-pen with the 250GB ssd as boot 🙂

So I'm happy with this new laptop. The only annoying thing would be the dual graphic solution. But I guess manual setting in the nvidia driver is kinda a solution to it.
Oh and I did manage to order a new bracket/cover for the blu-ray drive 🙂
As you can see here. The PN: 13NB0181AP0301
Not sure if it is something people are looking for. (The blu ray bezel/bracket)But if it is you moderators are welcome to make some kind of info/sticky post of the number or picture. I don't mind.

Oh btw. I have this one issue. It's not very important but a bit annoying.
When I connect the laptop to my surround amp/large screen through the hdmi connection. The laptop is mirroring the screen. That's ok. But the problem is that the laptop screen starts to flicker like the refresh rate suddenly drop alot or something. While the image on the larger screen is all good. So I tend to close the lid on the laptop to avoid seeing it.
Anyone else who have this problem?

Thanks Elmy79:

I'm on the cusp of buying the JZ, a JS is on the way from Fry's, but I might bounce it back to them unopened for the cost of freight and no restocking charge.

The JZ I'm considering is the full boat G750JZ XS72.

I've seen a lower model JZ, DS71, that Newegg shows as having 16 GB of ram, a 256 GB SSD and a TB hard drive.

Where did you find this type of JZ? What is it's model number? What did you pay for it?

Do you have room for another 8 GB of ram to max it out at 32 GB? I'm not saying I need it, just curious.

I'm not sure it will change my mind, but I'd like to consider all of my options.

Thanks for the tip about the Blu-Ray cover. While pondering my options, I was thinking of the fit of a third party Blu-Ray burner.

I have a thread that describes what I'm thinking about in this forum.

I plan on often using this laptop with a keyboard and mouse plugged into the USB ports and a 21 monitor plugged into the HDMI port. So I'd like to close the cover while using it like this. I thought laptops shut down or hibernated when the cover was closed. You're saying I can work with the laptop's cover closed?

Thanks
Larry

I dont know the exact number. Need to check when I get home.
Ye you can close the lid. Go into powersaving options. There is a option to what happens when you close the lid. Default setting is sleep mode.
I can get 32GB of ram. But it's kinda complicated. Because the 2 first ramslots are located under the keyboard.
That means if I want to swap those 2 4GB ram modules. I will have to open up the whole laptop and break the warrenty at the same time.
If yours comes with 16GB ram. It means that those 2 internal ramslots are occupied by 2 8GB modules instead. So you don't have to worry about that.

The price without the upgrades here is about 2100 usd.
Productnumber is g750jz-t4067h

Thanks Elmy79:

It looks like a push.

The full boat G750JZ-XS72 costs $680.00 more than the G750JZ-T4067H.

I penciled it out and it would cost me $645.00 to duplicate features of the XS72 from a system similar to the T4067H, adding a Blu-Ray burner, 512 GB SSD and Win 8.1 Pro. That number included 32 GB of memory, I could certainly live with 16 GB, but didn't include upgrading the drive to a faster 1 GB unit.

This is going to be tool, not just a toy.

It's worth it to me for Asus to deliver a finished unit.

Time to get to work.

Anyway, I'll probably order the big JZ tomorrow.

I appreciate the info.

Thanks
Larry

Ye with that much ram and a fast ssd or two, it can be used for more then just gaming and surfing 😉
Enjoy 🙂

Unfortunately for me. My use for this laptop is kind of lacking for home use.
By that I mean I have my desktop pc in the livingroom hooked up to the surround amp to a 46" screen and a 27" secondary screen with the correct sitting height for keyboard and mouse. While the laptop is by the couch by a low table. Meaning if I sit there with the laptop my back will start to hurt after a while. So I belive it has a better use in the kitchen, bedroom or anywhere else but home.

That said, I never owned a laptop before in my whole life so I just had to get one some day you know 🙂
It has it's advantaged for mobility like car diagnostic programs or lanparties or gaming at some friends house without dragging the desktop pc around that is alot heavier to lift.
