New guy that's lost

Hello rog, I'm a newbie to this site and to doing computer work... I just purchased a g75vw-bbk5 from best buy... I purchased as an open box item ( for a great deal ), but in case I purchased there warranty also..... Here's where it gets interesting. I get home and get settled in and decides to try out my laptop. Well soon as I turn it out nothing comes up. There's no software on my laptop. So I'm really mad, but too tired from 14hr day at work to deal with it... So I take it back to best buy geek squad and and tell them my problem... Well after arguing for about ten minutes the manager finally talk to me and we conclude that they would give me the money to order a recovery disc from asus. So I ordered and took it best buy. I also took in a brand new intel 520 120gb ssd. So I drop it off and come back the next day thinking they had time to get ssd in and software installed. Well geek squad is having problems with putting windows seven on the ssd. They had tried taking out original hdd and just having ssd in. Says it keeps erroring out. Even had an optical drive error... Any advice would be greatly appreciated so I can get my laptop up and running.... Thanks in advance

Please don't start multiple threads about the same issue. It simply causes problems for those trying to help.

With regards to errors, do they have all the SATA channels enabled? Also, make sure your SSD is actually working, it is possible that you have a DOA (dead on arrival) SSD which is causing all sorts of problems. Open box sometimes don't come with the software, but absolutely nothing on the laptop sounds like a different issue - potentially a faulty computer.

Couldn't figur out how to delete first post... Thought I posted it in wrong are.... My Apologies.... Well she said it loaded up and then errors out... Will ask her to check sata channels and ....Worse case is that they will have to replace it with one that has same specs as one I purchased....

No worries, deleting it is easy for mods. Just wanted to remind you. Probability is that they will have to fix the comp or replace the SSD.

Don't take this as a put down, but I think you may be in way over your head on this laptop. Installing an SSD and loading up Windows 7 on it is an easy operation. If Geek Squad can't get it to work and is reporting optical drive errors and startup errors after installing Windows, you could be looking at a lot of trouble. You want to get a laptop that runs stable right out of the box.

A) If I were in your situation, I would have them reinstall Windows 7 to the original HDD. If that operation was successful, return the SSD for a refund. It may be defective as @Zygo suggests.

Use and test all the features of the laptop while it's in stock configuration, particularly the optical drive, since they initially reported an error with it. See http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?17461-First-things-to-do-after-buying-G55-G75-based-noteboo....

Once your testing is completed, you can start adding applications and perhaps updating the video driver. Hold off on installing an SSD until you've had a chance to read and understand past threads on SSD installation in this forum.

B) If you encounter additional problems with your testing OR If Geek Squad cannot get the laptop to run stable by installing Windows on the HDD, ask for a replacement or refund immediately. Don't let them tell you they want to send it to ASUS for Warranty repair. If they can't simply reinstall Windows in one day to get it running, demand an exchange or refund.

Do not exceed the time you have to request an exchange or refund, whatever you do. Otherwise, you'll likely find it was a great deal for Best Buy - they got your money for a POS that spends most of its time in the repair shop while you remain in the "Land of the Lost".

864rog .. Welcome to ROG .. What is the outcome of this ?? Personally, I would still be standing @ the counter ..

If I understand this .. the drive was blank. No backup partition. Wiped. (Do they know if it is even the original drive?)
goodSir may I suggest you request your money back or suitable exchange .. This (for a great deal!) .. is not.

May I further suggest that for the monies you now have invested in this 'deal' you could have the G you actually want.
Demand Satisfaction ... when not @ home.

No need for apologies, Chris. It sounds rather ominous that Geek Squad couldn't get the laptop running immediately. Maybe the best course of action IS to just take the money and run...

I'd agree with that. If they can't get it running, it is better to get an exchange, because otherwise they may fudge around until the return period runs out and start charging for their services.

Absolutely ... something smells.

OP .. You know what you want now.. and your returned 'budget' ..
there are more 'reliable' sources .. c.

Went by again today and asked about the repairs, saying that the image on the disc might be bad...Well when I purchased it, I made sure to put the 3yr protection plan on it for instances like this. Now the problem they face is if it starts up and I bring it back in with problems again, they gotta replace same specs of the laptop of mine or better... going back monday after work and if not fixed, ask for a replacement. Think they only have the windows 8 version though
