New G751JY Kinda Slow..

I just got my G751JY today, and over all I like it alot. I played GTA V and was very impressed with how well it performed. However, non-game actions seem fairly slow. Just browsing the web takes longer than it should to load web pages. Starting Battlenet or Steam takes 30 more seconds than my much older laptop. Like there is something bogging down the computer. Has anyone ran across this and found any fixes?

I just got mine too, but I don't think it's slow. But the first thing I did, was updating Network drivers, geforce drivers and Intel inf update utility and probably some others. Also, if you just got it, maybe Windows Update is still downloading in the background.

ill try the intel one, but its really slow. i dont get it, How can it run GTA V so well, but then apps take forever to load, web pages, and even when I trigger a download in Steam or Blizzard it takes a while before it actually starts to download. I dont know if I need to reinstall the whole OS or what, but this is getting ridiculous. it just feels so slow when I'm doing anything thats not in game

Haven't noticed the laptop being slow the way you describe it,
but sometimes when I want to play a song or movie that's on the E or F disk it'll take a few seconds before anything happens,
which was not the case on my old laptop either.
I havent updated any drivers so far since i got it in november, except the gpu driver, so I dont think thats gonna be the problem.

Anyway, if you feel its not working as it should be, try changing it for another one,
I changed mine 4 times before I was happy with it 😛
This line of laptops is awesome, that is if you can find one without too many problems.

Could you do a hdd speed test. I used CrystalDiskMark
Download the portable - standard version 2.8mb
Run it and then copy and paste the results here.

I think there is something wrong with my Platter drive. Now granted the SSD is going to be much faster than the platter, but it should not be this slow for a SATA connected 1TB drive.

From the SSD it was
Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1175.332 MB/s
Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 817.705 MB/s
Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 234.722 MB/s [ 57305.2 IOPS]
Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 183.260 MB/s [ 44741.2 IOPS]
Sequential Read (T= 1) : 1091.010 MB/s
Sequential Write (T= 1) : 809.486 MB/s
Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 32.625 MB/s [ 7965.1 IOPS]
Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 94.211 MB/s [ 23000.7 IOPS]

From the Platter it was:
Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 141.474 MB/s
Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 137.846 MB/s
Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1.240 MB/s [ 302.7 IOPS]
Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 1.215 MB/s [ 296.6 IOPS]
Sequential Read (T= 1) : 141.335 MB/s
Sequential Write (T= 1) : 140.077 MB/s
Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 0.624 MB/s [ 152.3 IOPS]
Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 1.175 MB/s [ 286.9 IOPS]

I've noticed the same. I'm not sure if it might be Asus gamefirst or some other software. I'll let you know if I find out.

Ok so I re-installed the OS, and its maybe 10% better than it was before but that's still pretty slow. I really don't get why apps take so long to open and why I can get 150mbps in a speed test but when I download games through Stream or Battlenet it only downloads between 2.5 to 4 MBps. Something is just wrong and I may just have to exchange it and see if that does anything. Though if the next one does this too I may have to go with an ugly MSI with so so screen or a runs super hot Alienware. I really want this to work well, its looks grate and I love ASUS....

What's the speed of your internet because 4 megabytes is 32 megabits (the speed of most fibre broadband speeds in the UK)

Not really any different from your results.

Did you experiende faster download speeds in Steam or Battlenet on your old computer? Cause I guess those services could be capped. Speedtests doesn't lie I think, but you have you try different kinds of download tests. Do you have Qos active on your computer or even on your router? Disabling it could be something to try out...
