New G750JZ....weird noise...

Just bought this thing....

Fired it up to start installing some programs and attempt to clean the bloatware off (keyword attempt because windows 8.1 is a nightmare to navigate.

Anyways, I noticed this odd noise coming from the back of the laptop on the left side at the fan port...

Its clearly the fan running, but first question is, is the fan supposed to run all the time? I mean its running even at an idle...

Next question is...the noise its making...if I press down on the back of the laptop where the fan port is where the noise comes from...it stops...goes quiet....could this be a defect?

Im not sure, this is my first real gaming laptop, so maybe the fan is always supposed to run IDK?

Thanks

First off, welcome to the ROG forum, and congrats on your purchase of your JZ!

1. Yes, the fans runs all the time, @ 2300-2400 RPM under idle load, (but that's really quite IMO) needs to run all the time to keep CPU, and GPU temps down, and cool.

2. Noise is not right. (maybe some debris left behide from the manufacturing process)

Did you look inside the vent, for any obstruction there?
If you can see anything there, you can try to remove the obstruction.
But, if you can't remove the debris I would return to retailer for replacement!

PS: I have my JZ for little over a week now, and so far I'm very pleased with the performance.
My beast will eat up anything I throw at it, can run all my games on "Ultra setting".

Thanks for the response brotha.

So, I noticed this noise goes away with very little pressure applied to back side above the fan, or even if i apply light pressure to the top of the screen on the left side...

Wondering if it could be something loose.

So, its pretty normal then for this thing to kick on and off every 45 seconds or so? Seems like the fan will be off, then kick on with the slightest thing I do, such as drag an icon or something, or even if its sitting idle, sometimes it will just turn on.

I just found it odd for the fan to kick on and off like this all the time, I mean I dont see anything raising CPU % over 1% even with the background processes, so it just struck me odd that it would turn on and off like this.

It doesnt bother me really, I just want to make sure this thing is running properly....

Are normal operating temperatures for the cores around 40C? Thats where mine idles...then it bumps around from 40-45 and thats when the fans kick on and off.

Thanks,

I would say it's running properly, since my JZ does the same thing. The fan is going quiet due to the fact you're probably stopping it from rotating by putting pressure on the backside of the unit. My idle temp's are about the same too.
