New Asus g750 with 860m

I have bought a new g750 with the 860m, cant remember what model exactly but the graphcis should give this one away.
I've used the asus backtracker to make my usb, then cloned my stock drive to my 1tb Samsung evo drive. Been running that for last week no problems.

Since two days ago, when I go to hit shutshown to shutdown my system, it sits and spins for several minuets, then I get a blue screen that states driver power state failure.

I also since then, have problems playing titanfall or ghosts while on battery, it loads then crashes. Then when I go to restart (even if plugged in this time) nothing happens. I have to shut down and restart. And again when I do this (shut down) I get the blue screen and driver power state failure.

All asus driver updates, and windows updates are 100% current. As well as all software that I run.

Any thoughts?

Not sure if this is part of the same problem or a new one. But when editing videos, my cpu core/package temps get to mid to high 80's. Fan noise is also pretty loud, fans at 80%. So I downloaded intel burn test, and in less than 10 seconds my temps are and stay around 101 degrees. This is all celcius, or around 200 degrees farenheight. Fans are at 100%. Then I try and record/monitor temps while just gaming. Gpu gets and stays between 60-65 degrees, cpu stays around 75-80 (gaming, 85-90 is now normal for video editing). But even gaming, fan noise isn't quiet to say the least. I've read a lot of reviews on your rog forum, and most say that fan noise is minimal, even while gaming. Which is such a great thing about the asus. But fan noise is actually louder than in my previous Samsung ativ book 8.

Just wondering what to do, as far as the windows blue screen error, as well as if my temps and fan situation are normal. I have tried uninstalling the powergear power settings and running on balanced, doesn't seem to make any difference.

101c is definitely way too hot dblkk. Are you thermal throttling? XTU and HWinfo64 will show thernal throttling when it happens.

I would report both issues to Asus in concise detail, put some time into paring down the wordage and bumping up the focus. Break up the text into 2-3 short sentence paragraphs - their native language won't be english, so keep it basic.

It sounds like the cooler in this laptop isn't doing a good job at keeping the CPU cool.

Can you take it back to the seller to get another one? If you RMA to Asus it will take longer to than taking back to the dealer - if they have one in stock to swap for you.

Let us know how it works out for you.

Can you please run the XTU Stress test, and along side put the HWinfo64 diaglog expanded and scrolled to the temps?

Like this:

35909

Then you have a run on the same test as my JH and JX (posted below) to compare.

A 5 minute stress test should be enough. Use the Windows Snipping tool, and click New a few seconds near the end of the test like I did to grab the peak heat - Snipping tool will freeze the action and you click in the top left corner and expand to the bottom right to grab just the XTU and HWInfo64 windows.

Here is the JX run I did last October:

35910

Both of these runs are with the XTU multiplier settings to max, cores 36x/35x/34x/34x cache 36x and on the JH -25mV voltage offset, with -60mV on the JX.

You don't need to OC or under volt to use XTU, just run the stress test without changing CPU settings.

That way we can see a repeatable test that we can use to compare your results, mine, and others.

All the G750's have the same CPU setup, so they are all comparable.

Not sure if I posted this right

But I ran the test with intel and hw monitor running as well. Temps weren't as high as they've gotten to be. But I still think theyre quite high. Included 3 different screenshots.

As far as returning to seller, I bought from best buy. I'm their platinum or whatever their top tier is so I get a 45 day return policy. I think like 5-8 days into it which is more than enough time for a return. But id rather not, as getting stock drive back in here isn't hard at all, but getting the new computer, then having to do all updates again, then copy to ssd, install that, its a lot of work. But id rather have a good laptop and do that if you guys think that is necessary.

Also, if I do bring this one back and get the same exact one, is there a way to just change my windows liceanse code (on my ssd) and put my ssd right into the new one and be good to go. Or am I going to have to reclone the ssd from the new hard drive that would come with the new system?

Well, im going to start working on getting my current laptop back to factory, then start my way to best buy to see about exchanging my laptop. Good thing its within a week as this one isn't 100% setup yet. If the new one runs the same temps, maybe that's just because of this new copper heatpipe or something.

Well, switched out laptop. This one has some major flex on the plastic border below the screen where the asus is stamped. Returned that one twice as well, all other had same flex problem. But best buy was then out of stock since I went through 3. Annoying, but doesn't negatively affect the laptop at all.

Anyways, new test with intel software included above. I caught the screen shot right after it was done instead of during, but the max temps shows low 80's. Which is significantly better than the 100's I was getting on the first one I had. So hopefully problem fixed.

Also like to note, that when I got the laptop home, I took out original hhd, and immediately just put in my ssd that I was running as main drive on first asus. Booted without a problem, all files programs everything right there just as I had left it. which is awesome, don't have to redo all updates, download hundreds of gb of programs and games. Not sure if ill get a windows error in a week or so saying that the codes don't match or something. but for now everything is great.

Thanks for all the help

dblkk, excellent 🙂

Glad it worked out and you found a good one, thermally speaking. The temps on the last one are what we all should be looking for on the new G750's.

When you startup HWinfo64, it gives you a chance to start sensors only, and that listing is the one I used above - it gives more details for temps, including whether during a run the CPU turned on Thermal Throttling.

If the CPU doesn't go into thermal throttling, the cooling system is handling the heat ok - even if it peaks up into the mid 90's, the Asus Fan curve trys to keep the laptop quiet as long as it can, and kicks in at the last part of the thermal curve to keep the CPU out of thermal throttling.

You won't have to worry about that with this laptop in normal ambient temperatures, but get into summer with high temps, you might want to do a run and see how much higher the temps are and if thermal throttling kicks in.

Not sure what you are describing about the flex. I pushed the Asus logo on my screen to see if it gives, and it doesn't... does it flex when when you lift/close the screen, are the hinge flex / motion ok?

I had a problem with swapping SSD"s between G750's after running for a while I had an activation warning, then I needed to call in to Microsoft to get it resolved - but that was for the WIndows 8 Pro upgrade, not sure if you will see this for Windows 8.1 alone.

You can force the issue by doing the online activation steps here:

Have fun! 🙂

Hey was searching through reviews on google, came across another rog forum talking 770 vs 860 and you were on it. So thought id repost with my new findings.

Temps that were run first thing upon getting my laptop home, are now a lot higher than originally ran. Full load, again, will reach 100c. I've come to think that this is the new cpu/gpu enabled temperatures for these laptops. And that the fan curve sucks, and I don't think a user can change it. But that said, it runs louder and hotter than my original 765m, but I gain 30-45 min of battery which as some times is critical. So still like this laptop, just newer pros/cons than the last series.

As far as the ssd, still no problems. But I will definitely repost if something becomes of that. I will also keep an eye on thermals, and run stress test every few days for the next couple weeks, and repost the new data. Just to see if there are going to continue to change, or whats all going on.
