Need Help with Upgrading G750JW-DB71 to SSD

Hello All,

A few of you may remember my previous post where I was experiencing some choppy framerates on older games. Following you good forumites advice, I decided to upgrade to a SSD -- a Crucial M500, to be more precise. I thought the best way to go about the process was to install the Crucial SSD into the right-hand harddrive slot on my G750JW-DB71, make an image of my old harddrive using EaseUS Todo, copy it to the SSD, and swap them so that the SSD becomes the boot drive. Easy peasy.

One problem, though: Windows isn't recognizing the Crucial SSD at all. It's as though I didn't put it in. Any suggestions?

man..I think you should install your SSD without another HDD or SSD installed in your ASUS laptop and after you put your new SSD then recover your Operating System to your new SSD so it can be bootable. and after installing your new SSD or HDD, then you should try to reset BIOS to default settings , but you reset BIOS to default setting only if you installed you new SSD with another HDD currently in your laptop. this is what I went through in order to get my new HDD/SSD to be recognized...if it doesn't work for you, then you should contact ASUS Service Support....

Thanks for your gracious reply! Unfortunately, I'm completely at a loss as to how to do this. I now have only the SSD in the computer, and I get a blue Aptio Setup Utility screen. I have no idea where to go from here. It's like reading Greek. I've reformatted computers before, but I have no idea how to pursue your imminently reasonable suggestions or even get Windows 8 to recognize the SSD drive when its plugged into an external partition. (Yes, I tried that too.)

Could someone explain it to me like I'm five? I attempted to use Lifehacker's guide to migrating to an SSD, but it treated the SSD as if it should be writeable as soon as it's plugged into an HD slot. That's not working for me.
