My laptop's backlight is not working? [solved]

Hi everyone,
This is a bit of an odd one because I only noticed it like two days ago (and i've been using my laptop constantly since then). I'm currently running a 3 monitor setup (including my laptop as one monitor) and I use the keyboard on the laptop as the main keyboard until I get a mechanical external one. Anyways, I unplugged everything one time and took it to school with me and when I got home as I was coding away at night I realised I was having a hard time seeing the keys and I noticed the backlights were off. They still are, and I have no reasoning for why this might've happened. It's a g750JX from Dubai with specs of: i7 4700HQ, 24 gigs of ram, 1tb+256gig ssd, and I'm running on windows 8. It's about a month old now and I keep pressing the Fn + backlight brighten key (F4) and it's jsut not working. It's completely shut off and I have no clue why. Can anyone lend a hand? perhaps give me some insight on what might've happened? Also btw I should note this thing hasn't been bumped, scratched, or dropped even a tiny bit since i've bought it.

ATK package from asus website, but still keyboard backlit is not getting on.
Please provide some solution

Mine isn't working either. I've tried 'repairing' the ATK thing several times too. I can't find a solution online but lots of people seem to have the same sort of problem! HELP!!!

Hi ladies and gents.
I found this thread yesterday in an effort to fix my own problem, which was as follows:

Asus ROG G751JL notebook running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.
My keyboard backlights would be on sometimes, off other times and seemed to be affected by the computer going to sleep or similar activity. Often when it had been to sleep and then woke up again, my backlights would be off with no way to turn them back on. When starting up they would generally be on, but also with no way of controlling them.

I downloaded the newest ATK driver from http://www.asus.com/ROG-Republic-Of-Gamers/ROG-G751JL/HelpDesk_download/ and attempted to run the installer to do a "repair". After doing this and restarting a few times and checking the ATK process was running, the Fn+f3 and Fn+f4 keys still had no response.

It seems all I had to do was to run the installer to UNINSTALL ATK first, restart my machine, then run the installer again to INSTALL, instead of simply "repairing".
This seems to have done the trick and everything seems to be working normally again.

If your laptop's backlight is not working, you can try the following steps:

No problem. Glad I was able to help. To find those extinct leaves in such good condition is overwhelming. They have the scent of cinnamon and that they do being over three thousand years old is startling.

Hello everybody, i have an asus g751jm and i was wondering if it has backlight features, if it does can someone guide me on how to turn it on because i used fn+f4 but it wont work.

hey guys , my G751JT is doing this same thing too . reinstalled ATK and all that . even the W10 updated version too since im uisng W10 . still cant turn on the keyboard using FN 4 . is there a command like i can use to check if the backlight is not broken? maybe unplugged wire stuff under the hood ? cause i got this problem after i sent it for warranty which said i had a motherboard failure .

oh and i dont seem to have the keyboard turn on when booting up to , if thats help . anyone can help me on this?

very strange. i'm in the same exact situation.

i bought my G751JT from a company called "Computer Upgrade King." everything worked fine, but every time i'd boot up the screen would flicker and glitch, and sometimes it would fail to boot up at all, forcing a restart. so i sent it in, they took a look at it, then sent it in to Asus, and from there they replaced the motherboard. i just got the thing back today, and guess what. the keyboard backlight isn't working now. these are quite trivial things as far as overall performance goes, but it's nice to have a feature such as this as to not have to worry about having to see the damn thing.

i did just as Sampo did and installed the latest ATK, as well as an Intel chipset, of which an Asus support representative advised. now they're telling me to send it back ... but is it really worth the wait and the hassle of shipping it out again, all for a damn keyboard light?

i'd appreciate any insight or opinions you guys have on this

Yes, unfortunately if the motherboard was replaced, there is an extra step the technicians need to perform to enable the keyboard light for the new motherboard, so if they forgot to do this, it needs to be sent back to solve this.

I don't remember (sorry, haven't tried searching yet) if anybody has found another solution for the G751JT, but there was a utility released to help solve this on the older models before, so may want to check or see if anybody has better suggestions.

If it was a unit with the original motherboard, the keyboard backlight will be enabled from the factory, so you only need to be concerned about this issue when the motherboard has been replaced.
