My G75VW is smoking fast now

Got my G75VW a few weeks ago, bought an additional 8 GB of ram, and I got a 256GB Crucial M4 SSD drive in each slot. Holy smokes is it fast. Windows boots fully in 15 seconds, All my games (max payne3, medal of honor, Call of duty) have all the settings and resolution set to max, no lag what so ever. Best laptop I've ever had. The SSD made a whopping improvement. My windows index score is a 7.6 where 7.9 is the highest possible score.

The G75VW is a absolute BEAST! A smoking gun! With 2 internal drives easily accessible ... plus DVD ( mine upgraded now to Blue Ray burner )!

Congrats on your purchase and enjoy!

I got it for school. I'm doing graphic and web design. Everyone told me to get a Macbook pro. So I did. I kept for a week and just couldn't get use to it. Half my software wouldn't work, and the operating system was too different considering I've used nothing but windows since 1986. and I couldn't justify the $2500 I spent on it so I took it back, got my G75 plus 2 SSD drives and saved $1000 dollars. My G75 has NO problem running several 3D applications at the same time and barely gets warm lol.

welcome to 16gb w/ SSD's, its a whole new world, congrats, definitely a smart upgrade to get.

and may i say youre lucky you took that clunker back, i posted this in the other thread but i think anyone w/ a macbook deserves to know this (apple does a really good job of covering up their flaws and had the original review taken down, which is rediculous)

This may be a hugely Noob question / comment but here we go anyway;

Two 180GB SSD's is great but isn't that too little memory? I would love to upgrade as well (8gb ram + ssd's) but not sure how to go about doing it. Could your kindly tell me how and what RAM / SSD's are best to go for?

Thanks

Are you looking to upgrade from 8 gb of ram to 16 gb ( "ONLY" ) or do you want to go higher than 16 gb of ram?

The ram upgrade to 16 gb is straight forward you just need a pair ( 2 x 4 gb ) 1600 mhz ddr3 notebook sticks. Most any reliable manufacturer ( samsung/corsair etc ) will work peachy list price for a pair seems to be right now around 45 bucks US before shipping/tax.

The SSD question brings in a lot more "brand loyalty" type questions and also how much you want to spend. Me ... personally ... I would not put in anything in my G75VW except Intel or Samsung SSD ( series 520 for intel 830 tag for sammies ) for sata 3 but there are a ton of other ssd options out there some at considerably less overall cost.

Most of us are going with a single SSD to boot up from and keep our software on and a larger usual drive for data/storage/games. Some people seem to get by with an SSD of only 120 gig but larger size ( 180 gb and up ) give you more breathing space for installation of ( a lot more stuff ).

John,

Thanks for your reply- that really helps. I dont mind spending to get this laptop running nice and fast. Now need to get this stuff ordered and then make a back up etc etc.... Have no idea how to do any of this but will start reading up about how to do everything from now.

Cheers

I bought an additional 8 gig of ram for under 50 bucks for a total of 16gig, my SSD drives are 256Gb each. They are both crucial M4s

I bought the same SSD and initialized / formated the drive and then used EasyGigIV and now nothing! tried to power cycle many times but not found in bios or usb.
