i recently bought ASUS ROG G551JW. in the beginning my laptop would heat up when i play games for 20 min. but from yesterday it is heating a lot even if i just browse in good chrome. see the pic below. its just after 15 min after turning on my laptop after 7 hours. and also see my task manager , its speed is going upto 3.37Ghz but the only thing i am running now is google chrome and speccy. i am using it in a room with AC. don't know what to do guys. today morning when i played ghost recon phantoms for 25 min its temperature raised to 85°C. please tell me what to do. when i googled i read that we should stop overclocking and if that's the reason please tell me how to stop overclocking and please no negative comments. thanks in advance.

Your computer is NOT overheating unless it reaches 99C CPU temp. At 99C it will throttle the speed due to overheating.

85-90C during demanding games is quite normal for any 15" laptop with i7 quadcore CPU and GTX level GPU. Nothing to worry about.

I think he's more worried that his CPU hits over 70 while browsing. 85 is normal for gaming on 15-inchers as OCFreak said. My 4710 hits 3.5GHz while browsing, too. That doesn't mean it's doing anything special.
I definitely suggest using Intel XTU to set a dynamic undervolt of -75 to -90mV. That'll shave a few degrees off the top.

thanks guys for your response. now i am feeling relieved :). and i have another problem when i played battlefield 4, in the beginning i got upto 48fps but after 15 min of gaming it drops down to 30fps. so if i get a cooling pad can i solve this problem?

Right here he sounds like he's throttling? new notebook this is only going to get worse. he may still be in return window. How are you measuring your temps?

Sure sounds to me like your having a hardware issue. 85 while browsing is not normal. Overclocking or under clocking could void your warranty. I suggest you PM cl-albert and start the RMA process. If you are still in the window to return to the vendor you might want to do that before it is too late and swap it out for a different one.

He's not getting 85 while browsing, he gets it while gaming, which is normal for a 15-inch machine. He does seem to get 70 while browsing, which IS strange.

i didn't understand what u said clintlgm. edweird so u r saying 70 is more during browsing. right now my cpu temperature is 80 😞
