Model Feature Matrix

Is there a document somewhere in Web land that list the features by model? For instance I know what G74SX-DH72 has installed, but I want to know what other models have an SSD etc. Many thanks for any assistance.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. When I was shopping for a laptop about a year ago, I got SO frustrated with the lack of clear explanation of all the gazillion Asus models, and the lack of any rhyme or reason to their naming schemes, that I wrote a nasty email to customer support complaining about how hard their web site is to use. (At that time, I didn't know about Asus customer "support" .....) They thanked me for contacting them, and happily provided a link to their home page!

The best way I've found is to use Amazon. When you scroll down to the specs part of the product page, you get a clear list of the configuration particulars. You just have to jump around and compare them.

BrodyBoy, thanks for the quick response. Wow, that's not a good sales enviroment!! They should have this to helo customers pick a model. So out of curiosity, besides the model I refernced (Very pricey, $2K) what are some other models with SSD?

I couldn't tell you....

There are really only a few parameters that differ: 3D vs non 3D, type of optical drive, amount of RAM, and drive configuration. (There are now some with a slightly faster processor, but the other parameter differences pertain.) I've never compared to see how much of a premium Asus charges for SSDs, but it might be worth your while to find a configuration that you like otherwise and compare the cost of upgrading the drive yourself. Especially now with holiday sales, SSDs have become pretty affordable.

RAM and drives are both very easy (and relatively cheap) to upgrade after purchase.

XOTIC PC also cutomizes ASUS gaming systems to your taste. I've never dealt with them, so I cannot make a recommendation to buy from them. You'll have to decide for yourself.

BrodyBoy, that's a good suggestion!! SSDs are getting cheap, especially for ones OS sized. There must be a guide to adding one and moving the OS too it? Thanks.

dstrakele, I'd been on XOTIC PC before, and it appears very good. The only problem with configuring is willpower (or lack of specifically). I'll take 2 of those 3 of these etc. and I end up with a $4.5K unit 😉 A little out of my league. Thanks for the responses.
