Low Audio on G74SX? Here's the fix

Chastity

Open up the THX TruStudio app and set it to "External Speakers". When on "Built-In Speakers", it's filtering the audio improperly, and losing a lot of the audio playback.

Just a FYI, comparing the G74SX to the G73SW, the audio is fuller sounding. Seeing how the audio plate is wider, I suspect they put in larger drivers. 🙂

Feedback welcome!

There is no built-in subwoofer on the G74. Very annoying to know, when reviews would talk about about a woofer and then you talk to ASUS and they say there was never a statement from us that there was in it.

That's not true.
I have a G74-SX laptop in front of me and can tell you that there is a subwoofer build in.

The Crystalizer can be seen as a kind of equalizer. The higher the setting, the fuller the sound.
Of course Chastity's tip is right.Try it out and you'll get better sound.

Anyways...
It's still a notebook and you can't expect very good audio. The best sound I've ever heared on a laptop, was from a toshiba satelitte model which comes with harmon kardon speakers.

There is no sub woofer on the G74sx...it was sacrificed to get the screwless bottom

Hiya... I bought a BestBuy G74 myself, but I don't see any THX, I checked the drivers and All it shows for me is NVIDIA Hidefinition Audio. Do I need to buy a soundcard for my laptop? And If so where should I look? I'm using a Razor headset atm and it sounds very staticy if I turn it anywhere enjoyable.

It's not a driver....just an add-on program. Type "THX" in the Windows search bar and you should see it in the list of pop-up programs. (It's there in a "Creative" folder.)

Your laptop already has Realtek integrated audio, so you don't need to buy anything. I don't know what a Razor headset is, but I assume it's wireless? (Because moving affects the audio.) That's a problem with the headphones and/or their wireless connection....the Realtek chip and its driver wouldn't be likely to affect that at all.

Is it possible to set it to external speakers from startup? starting to get frustrating to open THX every time windows start.

I did a clean install when I got my G74 and didn't bother installing THX. Glad I tried installing it now! The sound is definitely improved, even in my earbud headphones I am hearing more bass and rich sound than I thought was possible in these little things. But yeah, that built-in preset is a huge annoyance... Running on Realtek alone had the speakers very nice and loud.

Hit your start button and search for "THX". You will find the app.
