Low Audio on G74SX? Here's the fix

Chastity
Level 10
Open up the THX TruStudio app and set it to "External Speakers". When on "Built-In Speakers", it's filtering the audio improperly, and losing a lot of the audio playback.

Just a FYI, comparing the G74SX to the G73SW, the audio is fuller sounding. Seeing how the audio plate is wider, I suspect they put in larger drivers. 🙂

Feedback welcome!

Fed up with the THX trustudio i try out the Free SRS Audio Essentials that a few of you recommended. The sound is much fuller and louder now and i am satisfied with that.

On the External speaker setting at max (THX) the sound is very loud but THX won't remember that at the next reboot.

The External speaker setting for SRS is just a tiny bit quieter but you won't have to worry about it revert back to built-in speaker.

You mean you have 5.1 or something? Do you have THX installed, too? I thought that was in THX...

Nah. Certain frequencies make it vibrate in a way that causes a bit of a buzzing noise, but it's a very minor annoyance, and it's only a problem when I listen to music. SRS worked perfectly in everything other than Skyrim, but I've had no problems with the basic Realtek drivers.

I have the equalizer set like this:

I don't have much experience with audio, so I don't know how if it could be made better, but like this it sounds quite decent for laptop speakers. Nothing like a good pair of Sennheisers on my stationary, of course, but it's decent enough. The main problem with headphones on this laptop is that I can never get the volume high enough.

I wonder how the volume on my BT headphones, that I'm getting for Christmas, will be.....

ughh... you would think a high performance GAMING laptop would have DECENT speakers.

asus just lost a TON of brownie points. im starting to regret buying this g53s now.

Is installing THX TruStudio Pro worth it or should i just install Realtek drivers?

You need the Realtek drivers in any case. THX is sort of pre-processor that enhances the sound.

If you choose to install Creative THX TruStudio, you will lose the adjustable equalizer in Realtek HD Audio Manager for the fixed sound profile in THX TruStudio. Personally, I like the sound from Crystallizer feature of THX TruStudio PRO. They claim it returns the dynamic range of digitally recorded music - kinda like Dolby, I guess, but it functions on both the low and high ends of the sound spectrum.
