Low Audio on G74SX? Here's the fix

Chastity

Open up the THX TruStudio app and set it to "External Speakers". When on "Built-In Speakers", it's filtering the audio improperly, and losing a lot of the audio playback.

Just a FYI, comparing the G74SX to the G73SW, the audio is fuller sounding. Seeing how the audio plate is wider, I suspect they put in larger drivers. 🙂

Feedback welcome!

Hmmm...whatever. Whenever I start reading anything about "3D sound," my eyes reflexively start to roll....lol. Thanks for the link.

Yah, me too. I had my fill of 3d with SQ Quadraphonic. :shakes head:

Anybody know what Creative's Alchemy program is? I found another version of THX TruStudio that I like better....it does the same thing, soundwise, but it has a slightly different interface and it uses the "external speakers" by default. But it also installs this "Alchemy" thing, which appears to have something to do with games.

I have found the PERFECT fix:

Click on your volume icon:

Click the speaker icon on the top, this brings up Speaker Properties. Click the "Enhancements Tab" and check the "Loudness Equalizer" checkbox. Hit apply:

This alone will fix your sounds issues, and you'll have way better sound than before. Combined with the other methods in this thread, it's perfect.

Note: If you don't see this option, please update to the latest Realtek HD Audio Driver, here's the link for 32bit and 64bit:

Click HD Audio codecs.

Have fun!

Thank you! I can finally hear the sound in my video clips (Canon HFS10) ... just barely and still pathetic but at least I can now hear something if the room is completely quiet. This could-be great notebook is basically junk without volume ... I can't believe Asus hasn't done something to rectify this major problem. I really miss the sound from my old Dell XPS M1710 ... puts this thing to shame big time.

My BBY8 that was bought mid Dec 11' shipped with the 1.04.04. My setting always revert back to internal speakers though.

The Pro version probably wouldn't have this filtering issue, but only experimentation will tell. If you have a link for it, let me know and I'll try it out.

Ok installed the 1.03.01 Pro version...Only got 2 options "Speaker" and "Crystalizer"

What is the crystalizer for?

How can I take advantage of the built-in subwoofer?

There is no built-in subwoofer on the G74. Very annoying to know, when reviews would talk about about a woofer and then you talk to ASUS and they say there was never a statement from us that there was in it.
