Loosing focus

The current open window will suddenly loose focus and then return in about 3 seconds. By loose focus I mean that the selected window will "un-select" as if I clicked on a different window and then re-select as if I clicked back.

This happens even if I am typing in a field of simply scrolling a web page. Suddenly the typing will stop, or the scrolling will stop, the title bar will un-highlight as if that window no longer has priority and quickly return, or I can again click on it and it will return as the primary window.

This happens at random times, sometimes not at all, sometimes only once, sometimes multiple time within the same window.

It is very annoying while typing. Any clues?

If you have the Sentelic touchpad, you can confirm you have deactivation on typing set (it's the default with the earlier drivers and try increasing the reactivation time from the default 0.5 seconds to 1.5 or 2.0 seconds.

Alternatively, you could upgrade the Sentelic touchpad driver to version 9.1.7.7. This version has ASUS SmartSense, which deactivates the touchpad on typing and requires you to touch a configurable reactivation zone on the touchpad to resume touchpad use. I find its default settings sufficient to eliminate any touchpad problems while typing.

If you have a Synaptics touchpad, you'll have to ignore this post and wait for someone else to weigh in with help.

It is a Sentelic, however I have it disabled, I use a mouse.
I disabled it via the keyboard fn+F9

Also I want to add that it will cause games to minimize to the tray periodically. I believe it is related.

I'm trying to picture what you're seeing, and the closest thing I can think of is when a program goes "unresponsive" briefly and its windows kind of clouds over until it comes back. If you look at the title bar, it'll usually say "Not responding" in parentheses until the situation clears.

Is that what you're talking about?

That has been one of the complaints - that disabling the touchpad using Fn-F9 to use a mouse only works temporarily. The ATK Package controls all the function keys. I would try 2 things:

1) Launch MSCONFIG.EXE and go to the "Startup" tab. Confirm the "ATK Hotkey" checkbox is checked so it is run at startup. Then in Windows Explorer, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\ASUS\ATK Package\ATK Hotkey and execute HControl.exe.

2) If that fails, uninstall the ATK Package from "Control Panel - Uninstall a program", set your Antivirus Services to "Disabled", REBOOT, then install ATK Package 1.00.0014 and restart your Antivirus Services.

He means the window he's working in changes for no reason to somewhere else.

Sounds like it could be a tp issue.
Read the User's Manual for more info. 😄

Possibly - Although he didn't report erratic cursor movement when using the touchpad normally. As I understand it, he only experiences these issues when typing.

It happens anytime, not just typing. I can be scrolling a web page or drawing in CAD - doesn't matter. but when it happens I can't do anything until it comes back or I click the window again. For example, the mouse scroll will stop scrolling the page until focus returns.

IT is hard to describe so I managed to capture some images. The first shows the window with focus, note the title bar color.

You can simulate what I see by placing two open folder windows side by side, click on one and then the other and back. You will see the title bar change depending on which window has focus, meaning which window you can interact with.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
