long black boot up screen after windows logo * fixed.......

i have a g74sx-bbk8, and this were my steps to fix my long boot up black screen , first of all get the drivers from asus , i have intel centrino ultimate n 6300 CARD and i use _v15.0.1.1 from asus website ( http://support.asus.com/Download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=G74Sx&p=3&s=336), MAKE SURE TO INSTALL ALL OF THE DRIVERS IN SAFE MODE EXCEPT CHIPSET , INSTALL CHIPSET IN CMD MODE. test your boot up time after you install all of the drivers and after you install 3rd party apps that may cause black long boot again. in my case ccleaner was causing the long boot up so i had to uninstall it , this is the order i flash my drivers . hopefully i can help someone out there .

1.- set up bios.

2.- RUN WINDOWS 7 INSTALL .

3.- CHIPSET _9.3.0.1019

4.- IRST (INTEL RAPID STORAGE TECHNOLOGY)_ V10.1.0.1008

5.- VGA _ V8.17.12.6837

6.- FRESCO USB 3.0_ V3.5.30

7.- REALTEK HD AUDIO _V6.0.1.6564

8.- TOUCH PAD _ V9.1.3.5 I HAVE SENTELIC

9.- REALTEK LAN _7.44.421.2011

10.- REALTEK CARD READER_ V6.1.7600.10001

11.- WLAN I HAVE INTEL SO _V15.0.1.1

12._ ATK PACKAGE _ V1.0.0015

Neither the driver sources nor installation method had any role in the problem you were having (further confirmed by the many other owners who have no issues due to driver source or install method), so it seems the solution for this specific problem is: DON'T ALLOW CCLEANER TO RUN AT START-UP. No?

the reason why, is because that is the way it worked for me, when i was using other drivers i was getting the issue , maybe you are right maybe it would work any other way but this way it gave me great results every time and that's why i recommend it , i have already tried installing ccleaner and not have it run at start up and still get the same issue , so for me the only solution was to uninstall it completely.

It's possible that CCleaner is conflicting with some driver installed on @gilbert's system that is not installed on @PILGRIM's system. Computers can be complex beasts...

Yeah, that could be the only logical explanation to it..

And this issue may support the argument for installing just the essential programs,
and to avoid as much as possible, conflicting or overlapping programs.

it could also be the version of the drivers we are using the other program im using besides whta is already listed is power4gear, are you using the latest drivers for everything PILGRIM ?

Bingo.....not only are a bunch of other utilities usually redundant and unnecessary, but they can vastly complicate troubleshooting even simple-seeming issues.

I used to just recommend uninstalling that program as an unnecessary utility that can cause problems. Now I think it's just bad software, and should be avoided.

@gilbert: I understand that this issue (and troubleshooting it) has been a major headache for you, what with all the re-installs and so on. You kept focusing on drivers as the source of this problem. But dozens/scores of owners use the same drivers on these machines, so if one of the essential drivers caused a serious startup-delay issue, there'd be a lot of discussion about it around here, and a huge red warning flag about that particular driver. (Like the way the early stock Atheros WLAN driver caused DPC latencies....that was spotted fairly quickly.)

You only mentioned recently that you apparently install CCleaner and P4G early in your setup, too. When you're trying to resolve these kinds of issues, it's critical to start with a truly clean setup, to not run extraneous programs like that. If you add these sorts of things very slowly after you establish a stable barebones installation, it's much, much easier to identify the one(s) that cause unwanted behavior. (It's also very important, when troubleshooting on the forum, to report all the extra software that's running on our machine. You could re-install a VGA driver, for example, 'til the cows come home, but if it's something like P4G causing weird display behavior, no nVidia driver or installation method is going help. When all the info is available, there's always a chance that some experienced owner here can help you spot the problem quickly.)

That's also a valid point.

Being around in these forums, I've learned a simple rule for my computer usage.
As a general rule, I tend to be cautious with any "latest" drivers.
I don't normally install/update the just released drivers right away, certified or not.
(To paraphrase Brody: "The latest isn't always the best.")

I often wait for a particular newer driver to "simmer down" a bit, then use it.
(Translation: I let others do the testing first. :p)
Then if I were to install, I would make sure I made a restore point and would do
the trial-and-error method. If it worked, nice. If it didn't, rollback or restore.

To answer your question, I'm using the following, to name some:

1) Drivers: Touch Pad (Sentelic) 9.1.7.7 / ATK Package 1.0.0014 / nVidia 296.10 /
Realtek HD Audio 6.0.1.6602 / Realtek USB 2.0 Reader 6.1.7600.10001

2) Peripherals: Power4Gear Hybrid 1.1.43 / USB Charger Plus 2.0.0 / CCleaner 3.16

ok guys i just did 2 more clean installs with new drivers and all of them with same results, this time i did not use safe mode to install drivers , what i found out is that in my case the newest nvidia drivers don't get along with the card reader driver 10001. and the oldest drivers do , but none of the two vga drivers get along with ccleaner , when i was using the new vga drivers without the realtek card reader i was booting up in 20s but when i install the card reader driver i was getting a 3minute boot up, same thing with ccleaner , and as soon as i uninstall them my boot up time was 20s , with the oldest drivers and card reader drivers no problem 20s boot up time but with ccleaner i was getting long boot up times , i tried to find another card reader driver to use the new vga drivers but could not find any ,


in other words in my case everything i need works with old vga drivers, V8.17.12.6837
im going to try one more time with the new drivers and old vga driver, and then i would try to install new ones on top of old ones and see if that works.
