Just ordered my G750JH and have a few questions...

Just ordered a G750JH from Newegg on sale for $2239. After looking around, it seemed like a good price for the specs. As I'm typing this on my Asus W90vp laptop, its almost dead.

Anyway... My question is, what is the battery life on the JH under different conditons? I'm going to use this as my travel system and will be on 5 hour flights. Can someone tell me how long they are getting with the battery under...

1. Surfing
2. Blu ray movies
3. Gaming (Newer game on Med settings)

I'm going to check/update bios, drivers, software first thing. Then delete the HD partitions (Not the backup one) so I'm back to only 2 drives. Any other tips for me on day one?

Thanks,

Brian

This is a gaming / desktop replacement laptop. it wasn't meant to operate on battery, the battery is just there if you want to move from one room to the other while playing a game and don't want to switch it off. it will not last you more than 1.5 hours and if you are playing a game on high performance it won't last more than 45 minutes.

no once you update to bIOS 208 the CPU throttling down on battery power is fixed, you can still stay on full frequency if you set your min. CPU Utilization to 100% but you need the updated BIOS

the thing is, the battery is too small for this machine

Congratulations on Getting a kick ass Laptop. I ordered mine this week as well. Given that you will be travelling a lot and gaming while your in transit. Why not order a few extra batteries that you can bring with you? Sure it will increase overall weight to carry around but you will naturally increase the amount of computer usage you get during transit.

You can test how long your battery lasts at home when using the laptop as you would have during flights. Then divide 5-6 hours with the time you get (in hours) and you should get the number of batteries needed. Make sure to round un-even numbers up 😉
Laptop: ROG Asus G750JH

I wouldn't really use this laptop on a flight, it'd be too large for the table (unless you're travelling on business and first class) but I would travel with it from one location to another if I'm staying in that place for a long time. However if I'm travelling for a week or two I'd take something like an iPad, very convenient especially on flights and for short travels 🙂

JX user here. Surfing/general non-gaming use you can expect about 3 hours. I've personally used Word on battery for over 3 hours, with reasonable brightness. JH has a more power-hungry GPU, but on battery it shouldn't matter as they throttle down in any case.
Gaming I have no idea, but the GPU will not run at full speed so you won't be able to game very well anyways.
It's not a laptop I'd recommend for frequent travels, it is huge and as mentioned would be very inconvenient to take out on flights.

Thanks for all the info! I bit of backstory. I ordered this laptop for several reasons. First, my current system is barely alive. If I load a game, the gpu will crash(Asus W90Vp). I'm building a new rig with the RE4BE motherboard and I'm sick of waiting for it to be in stock at newegg. My girl also needs a new laptop (for surfing only) and I would like something to take with me when I travel. I planned on giving the G750JH to her when I get my new rig up and running and the G750JH seemed to fit the bill for all these needs. Overkill for her but if your going to buy something, buy it. I can keep it plugged in at the airport and play for a hour while I wait, and if I can get one BluRay movie out of it on the plane, I'm good. I never expected to play more than 30 mins of BF4 on med. settings, or watch 5 hours of bluray movies, just wanted to know if anyone has really tested the battery playing something like BF4 or watching a bluray and had any real numbers.

Also, I have a 30" dell monitor that needs a DVI-D Dual link feed. Has anyone hooked up a monitor like this to the G750JH? Again, the 30" monitor is for my new system, but while its sitting infront of me doing nothing at the moment, I thought I would give it a try. Looks like the thunderbolt port to a DVI-D Dual link cable would work, but has anyone done it?
