Hello Asus and Asus owners,

I recently found myself in the market for a gaming/producing laptop after selling my 2010 imac for cash.

After a few days of grueling comparison shopping I had it narrowed down to either the MSi GT70 2OC or the Asus ROG g750jw.

I bought the g750jw in the end because I assumed Asus would have a better build quality over MSi. Also, the 1 year accidental damage warranty was appealing.

It was supposed to come into the shop today but was held up in shipping and I won't get it now until after Canada Day.

After reading this forum I am regretting my decision already. The locked bios and lack of windows support is disappointing; the issues with the screen and gpu issues are devastating. Am I to expect a faulty unit? Should I even bother opening it, or try to return it immediately?

There is conflicting information here and elsewhere about what models are affected by ask these issues. Since I got the 12gig ram jw and not the 8gig best buy jw am I going to be pleasantly surprised Tuesday when my laptop has a nice screen, or are ask the jw models faulty?

In the thread about the horizontal lines a Asus representative said the jw and jh models are indeed faulty and need new lcds ? Or am I misunderstanding? Does this mean I will need to rma my laptop to have the new, functional, installed?

Uhg what a nightmare, I can't afford to be out $1800 CAD and empty handed.

can anyone advise me how to proceed? Have I been had?

I'll post here in this thread a detailed video or the product when it arrives, paying attention to any problems with the display, assuming it's worth opening the box.

Sincerely,
Panda

That's a massive overstatement. It's tolerable.

Greetings!
First off, I totally agree on the "tolerable", or even "barely tolerable" statement when it comes to Windows8. Having said that... I have searched high and low for the chipset connectivity driver(s) for a brand new ASUS G750JW-DB71-CB.
This is my sister's notebook, and I am trying to help her with the "Windows 8 problem", by upgrading the machine to Windows 7, of course 🙂

Everything went seemingly ok with the disabling of that retarded UEFI, unlocking the BIOS, loading up Windows 7 from a brand new, licensed disk, and getting the basics for the Mobile Intel HM87 Express chipset. All good except for one thing... NO CONNECTIVITY! At all 😞 No wireless, no wired, nothing... The Dev Man shows "Other devices" (Ethernet controller, Network controller, PCI Simple Communications controller, and USB controller, but they have NO driver associated to them... although the USB ports do work just fine).

Going back to original Win 8 is not an option because I turfed all those partitions that had anything to do with Win 8, and formatted it as one drive (well, one C:\ and one E:\ as the drive was split into 0 and 1, so I consolidated these for programs and data respectively).

For the life of me I cannot find any deeper detail as to what driver I need to get the machine to see the network. Without it, this is basically a one good looking paperweight. I found some reference to a BCM20702A0 but it did not work. Also tried PROWinx64.exe; also did not work... Can anyone point me in the right direction? VERY much appreciated!!!

edit:
Just found this one: http://www.driverscape.com/download/qualcomm-atheros-ar8171-8175-pci-e-gigabit-ethernet-controller
and it works great; the network adapters now list two Bluetooth devices and one Qualcomm Atheros AR8171/8171 PCI-E Gigabit ethernet controller (NDIS 6.20), so I've got a basic connection going (whew!)
But the other "other devices" are still showing no drivers. Darn... Ideas, please.

Hi all, I'm new here. Just wanted to say I'm kind of in a similar position to the OP, except I live in a country with no official Asus dealership, I had to order the thing internationally, so if there is a problem with it when it arrives it will take a lot of time and money to solve.

I'm really, really hoping that everything turns out OK, but all these issues being reported have me seriously worried. I don't understand why such a big manufacturer would put out a product without finding these issues before they get to customers. It's very disappointing to me. Still, fingers crossed everything will work out ok, and I'll be sure to post some feedback when it arrives, whether it be good or bad.

Cheers all.

So definately install the 311.59 GPU drivers off the ASUS support website, absolutely helps with the display.

However, the lines are still there.

Also, buy a SSD and install.

Those two steps bring this computer from a 2/10 to a 6/10 (better than average). Still, I paid for a 9/10+ gaming rig...

I buy New G750JW but LCD monitor have flicker lines. How to fix it. Please help me

Dude so sorry, was in the same boat. my g75vx was a paper weight for 2-3 weeks, until I got win7 up and running. CAD and games don't mean anything to people here. Top of the line gaming rig...if you can get it to work! They or should I say Marshall@asus killed my thread about getting better support. I wouldn't hold my breath over support...they are working on the G850 now and since you already bought it, you are not a priority. WE PAY NO SAY. Jonny Jonny Jonny, too many yes men around you...better start listening to your pissed customers.

I am also very sorry about all the phonies posting...it works great, your just so stupid, you can't make it work. CAD and Games are just for children anyway(insert sarcasm here). You will all eventually pay for your deceit.

I hope some one can help you get up and running without resorting to hacked or bootleg drivers. I cross my fingers for ya.

See if u can roll back an OS to solve your probs. Just a thought. Good Luck

Thanks for the words bud, I'm not feeling like re-installing everything just yet though.

So some new good and bad.

Good: Played Metro LL on Ultra with 35+ fps throughout. Exceeds my expectations.

Just ran 3dMark13 and got 2300 on Fire Strike.

Bad: CPU reads ~90C after benchmark and I still am not hearing the fans rev up.

Question: How can I set the fan speeds higher?

Relax guy... this is a good buy. All the issues you mentioned have been solved (all software). The BIOS is not locked. You just have to press "DEL" button before the ASUS ROG symbol appears (some people just don't know how to enter BIOS - better leave it like that). Screen issues are solved by eiter uninstalling Splendid or installing the latest version that came out on October. No GPU issues (if you have the latest drivers from ASUS or nVidia). I have the BestBuy model (8 RAM). Haven't seen 1 issue yet, aside from the fact that it makes me want to game instead of work.

unplug your charger. press ctrl alt delete. look at clock speeds.

ive got wieless card issues...........................no more than 3mb dl and like 1 ul.....bottleneck. ethernet card functins perfect tho. 21.mb dl =}
